Rumor: StarCraft 2 Beta By Year's End?
A Korean site claims to have the scoop on a new race and the future of the original StarCraft.

April 11, 2007 - Put on your skeptical goggles because rumors are swirling that StarCraft 2 is finally a reality. The Team Liquid forums have translated an article from Korean site Fighter Forum that says StarCraft 2 is on the way and a beta will be released at the end of 2007.

According to Fighter Forum, StarCraft 2 continues the story of the original and adds a new race based on Kerrigan, making a total of four races. While that wouldn't be totally off the mark, we figured the new race would be more the super-race mix between Zerg and Protoss rather than Zerg and Terran or at least the mystically advanced Xel'Naga. The three older tribes will each be receiving around two additional units.

The report also claims that Blizzard plans to shut down its original StarCraft servers in order to ensure the success of the sequel.

As popular as StarCraft was on these shores, it doesn't come close to the enthusiasm the game still enjoys in Asia, where televised, professional matches are held regularly. Blizzard has an event coming up in Korea where they are expected to make a large announcement, so it could very well be that the company has chosen the area where StarCraft is the most popular to announce its sequel.

As of this writing, Blizzard could not be reached for comment.

Just rumors. As you can read... They say there will only be 2 additional units to each race. We all know thats complete bull. Because we are talking about how advanced warcraft got when warcraft III came out, there were 2 more races, but most of all. ALL CHANGED. There will not be anything to similar to the original.

It's like some of you didn't even read it's just a rumor nothing more. Also every one knows it isn't true starcraft servers are up there is no way they will take them down.

The fact that we say its bull**** doesn't mean that we didn't know its only a rumour. Its more the fact that people (the guys who wrote that) believe in that (their own?) bull****.

Well,i dont think that blizzard will plan to shut down its original StarCraft servers,and if starcraft2 would have been a mmo,it would have been a disaster because they would have dissapoint milions of people,and they would already have a mmorpg like wow(tbc),it would have been like...taking money from a pocket,and put them in the other one,i mean,lots of people would leave wow,and join sc2 mmo :),but fortunlatley,its a rts wich will proove to be the best game of the year,mabye...of all the time....and about the rumors,it is very possible that a new race based on kerrigan shall rise up and take its shell,you know,kerrigan isn't a pure zerg,but...it is more possible that the zerg/protoss hybrid will make its appearence in sc2,you know that blizzard keeps things in secret,but the best thing for us is to wait till the release and see with our own eyes ^_^

Spare the effort, we al already know that they announced (so maybe its untrue, but I think its gonna be like they sayd it) that their isn't gonna be a 4th race.

i dont really care if there is or not a 4th race but it would be kool if there is. and i read that rumor on the site u probeble got it from and everthing was untrue according to Blizzard..so i hope there the guy that posted that website just made everthng up... :powerup:

Not to mention that it would grossly screw up the very delicate balance between the current three. A fourth race would probably force an overhaul of the other three, and more than likely ending up irrevocably screwing up the overall gameplay.

I remember having read this prior to the unveiling of SC2. It contradicts about everything about the game that Blizzard themselves have revealed to this point.
