View Full Version : The Simpsons
So it's the longest running prime time animate series ever, with 400 episodes being aired.
How popular is the simpsons anyway?
Here in Australia it is being broadcasted EVERYDAY, with 3 episodes being broadcasted on tuesday.
Does anyone actually know where "Springfield" is located?
Let's discuss this famous dysfunctional family from Everygreen Terrace!!

They run it every day except Saturday in America, with a new episode on Sundays.
And Springfield doesn't exist, at least not in America....It's been shot down in every state where there's a Springfield.

They had mentioned which state is springfield in series but i dont remmeber which one...Not sure the town realy exists but there is a copy of simpsons house
http://www.neatorama.com/images/2005-10/simpsons-house.jpg
Yeah there are so many springfields.. and every single time they were talking of the state they live in.. they just include bart or homer to hide it.. in some way..
remember when homer loses his right to drive and has to follow some kind of class.. they ask where people are from.. and he says something else than his state.. i don't remember what he says.. but its funny..
About the simpsons.. I used to be the biggest fan on earth..
but now i just moved to other shows..
I respect the simpsons a lot because without matt growning.. I couldn't enjoy these other shows.. I'm listening to now.. I'm refering to ATHF, American Dad, etc..
right now i'm on a South park frenzy.. the last seasons are truely great.. it's so funny.. the story is always so ****ed up.. it's insane..
but nothing is refreshing like a good ATHF episode.. it's by far the best way to relax in 11 minutes.

Simpsons used to be really good, but it kinda went downhill ever since the episode where Homer sings Eee-eye-ee-eye-ooh through the whole thing... I think it's weird that you can just pinpoint the episode, but it's true... I think Matt should go back to Futurama for a while, that show still has most of the charm that Simpsons used to have back in the day...

I rather enjoy Family Guy too....
And like with what JBL and Lithuania said, they mention the state only to shoot it down...
I remember and episode where Skinner is talking about the school, and he says "You know, this school was once voted the most decrepit school in all of Illinois"
And Lisa and whoever else was there give him the " :o ZOMG :o" look and are all "Whaaa-?"
He goes on to say "Yes, that's why they moved it brick by brick to here."

Yes i want more futurama
I LOVE futurama. and I still remembered this episode that made my cry :P
It was about Fry finding his dog seymore from 1999 in fossilized form. The ending of the episode was so sad that I actually cried. Then I felt really lame because I cried to a sitcom :P
Anyway here's that episode on wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jurassic_Bark

The one episode that I can remember that made me really sad was the ending of this one: http://video.glath.com/view/futurama.Time_Keeps_on_Slippin'
The ending is so damn hopeless and pessimistic, it's like psychological torture!!! :'(

Springfield is in texas. in the episode where sideshow bob went to europe, he stabbed a globe, and shelbivile(sp?) was in texas. and springfield is right next to it
Does it snow in Texas? It snows in the simpsons.
To me it seems like Springfield is made based on a stereotypical city in the West Coast. It does have striking similarities to Los Angeles.
They have that giant Springfield sign on the top of a mountain, just the same as the Hollywood sign. And when you look down at Springfield from the mountain, you see the general layout of the city also looks like LA.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On another topic, who's your favourite character? I like Bart Simpson. Homer used to be my favourite but I think they recently overdone his stupidity. Apu is also one of my favs/

are you saying they are finally telling us where is springfield??
I have this episode.. I think i'm going to watch it just now.

I'm watching it right now.. and.. when they arrive in italy.. homer gets his american flag and says:
"That flag is mine! Don't mess with Texas! Suck it off losers, suck it off!"
edit: kk now im at the part with the knife..
and all we see is shelbeville and springfield.. it doesnt say texas at all

Because it isn't in any of the real springfields. The creators even have a contest between the real springsfields which town should be simpson city.

Hmm.... hard to say. it all depends on what ending it is. I don't know much about the movie, but if it is part of the series sort of thing, it may be.
But i hope not!

West Springfield is supposedly three times the size of Texas... :P
Springfield, Vermont is selected to host the premier of the movie because they said it has the most resemblence to the Springfield in the Simpsons...

I'm hoping that the movie is not an indication that the TV series is ending soon.

I didnt really like the movie. It just wasnt like the series at all. There were a lot of good jokes and things like that, but I didnt like how they kept reminding me that it was the movie. I fuking knew, idiots. I was sitting in a theatre... I'll have to watch it again later anyway. Sober.

I have not seen a single episode since... prolly 1999 or 98? The new movie has 0 interest for me. I have not played or touched my starcraft or broodwar CD since about 2002 maybe 2001. Hearing about Starcraft 2 has made me start playing SC and BW again.

Yes it's worth going to see it in the Cinemas! Ignore the small minority of people and critics who have given The Simpsons Movie below average in their reviews and ratings. It's definitely above average (generally speaking of course), and of course you'll definitely like it if you were a proper Simpsons fan.
I give it 8/10 it's good, as long as you watch it for real! (Yep don't bother to download, maybe later, but watch it for real first)

Would be cool to see a poll of your ratings.
I haven't seen it, but I personally suspect that The Simpsons work better as a series. Maybe I should check it out though.
You are right scarecrow, I personally thought the series is better than the movie. In the movie, they didn't focus enough on springfield and many of those all time favourite springfield residents. Even though an eipsode from the series is slightly better than the movie, I still recommend everyone go and watch it. It is well worth the effort and time :)

I love the Simpsons! They make me laugh.
"Cream of toast??" -Homer
"Mrs. Simpson made me gay!" -Rod (or was it Todd?)
"Mmmmm...Sacrolicious!" -Homer

Thats because there are too many rip-offs of it like Faminly Guy and American Dad, etc. etc.

Eh, but then again, the simpsons have done everything, so you can't really get too out there on originality....as South Park has taught me :)

Yap simpson is the most popular games years ago hehehe and we dont expect until now wow!!! great...
Eh, but then again, the simpsons have done everything, so you can't really get too out there on originality....as South Park has taught me :)
This is true. The Simpsons has addressed every possible issue in human society. And one of the reason that their ratings are declining is that they have less meaningful episode nowdays. It's clear that they've ran out of ideas. All they do now is put heavy emphasis and exaggerate Homer's stupidity.
I think that should start "recycling" some of the better old episodes. One of favourites are when Homer is hypnotized to pretend that he is 10 years old again. Then he started screaming out of control. In the end of the episode they located Smithers' father's body. That episode had a very good plot, and the development of the plot, and the climax is very well done, not to mention intelligently blend humor into the story. So maybe make an episode with a similar plot would be a better way then showcasing the sillyness of Homer.
Also, how about Springfield actually hosting an Olympics? The last time the IOC was angered by Bart's jokes and left the city. Some of the older, more brilliant ideas can definitely be expanded further, and make into new episodes.

I'm going to watch it tomorrow!
as for south park, the first season was great. then it went downhill when the creators developed some fetish for gay/racists jokes and every episode was the same stuff
Not really. The thing with South Park is that its in a lot of ways smart humor (not saying that you're dumb dragoon :)). Personally, I think South Park is one of those shows that actually got better as it got older. Take this last season for example...I would give nothing but good reviews for all except one episode. There was also the Scientology one that I thought was the most cleverly and well done episode I had ever seen in any show. South Park goes with the times, that's why it can keep ressurecting itself.

i agree with ship. South Park definitely goes with the times and does a damn good job at making jokes. it really isnt all about gays and racism anymore. Some of the stuff is just downright "wrong" (i.e. when the little kids had to play against the detroit red wings for the cancer child...heh) that it will make u laugh for hours.
Eh, but then again, the simpsons have done everything, so you can't really get too out there on originality....as South Park has taught me :)
south park is much more original than the simpsons.. trey parker and matt stone really tries to do something no body will expect.. and they often reach their goals.
