Immortals look like alsome units. They have some good weapons and defence, including the sheild. But in the story line of them, they are greatly limited. Because of the Dragoon producing places on Auir have been infested with Zerg, they have greatly decreaced the Dragoon's numbers, since protoss cant produce anymore Dragoons. Because of this, Dragoons have been upgraded from apearance to weapon to desine, and renamed as the Immortals. But as powerful as they are, they will fall. So, does that mean the Dragoon (Immortal) building limit has been decreased to a small number, to save the Dragoons for future battles to come? In the story line, the protoss must save the Dragoon numbers or they will soon become nothing but a legand. When Starcraft 2 comes out, dont hope for a Immortal army waiting to be created.

You see what i am saying? What do you think?

I think Immortals are a buffed up version of the Dragoons. Have you seen their HP?
If I remember correctly, they have like 100 shields and 240 HP. That is like almost the twice the HP of your regular Dragoons.

Their HP looks like the Immortals would be one heck of a Tank. Strong firepower won't hurt them much because of their shields. And with their huge amount of HP, small units won't be taking them down very quickly either. To make up for been soo strong, I think Blizzard will make them a bit expensive + longer buildtime. So you won't be seen mass Immortals very often. They also seemed to move very slow when you look at the GameplayVideo.(Much slower than the Zealots)
I also noticed that they couldn't attack air units too. So I guess it balances out.

On the other hand, I think the new Stalkers are more similar to the original Dragoons because they have the same HP. But the Stalkers can blink and also attack air units unlike the Immortals. Both of these new Dragoon lookalike units are very appealing and the model for both of those looks much better than the old Dragoon. The new Protoss is going to be very interesting with the introduction of these 2 Dragoon lookalike units. I can't wait to try them out.

So you're saying that, because the Dragoon construction facilities on Aiur are held by the Zerg, the Protoss won't be able to make more Dragoons, or Dragoon-like units? Certainly that isn't the case, because it is entirely possible for the Protoss to rebuild these facilities on, say, Shakuras. They would have had to as well, because you see them using Dragoons in the Brood War campaigns long after Aiur was taken. I seriously doubt Blizzard would bother with a "save the Dragoons" campaign, because in the end, they are just big mechanical walkers, weapons, not something vital to their survival as a race, which is where the real story is being told.

P.S. Please don't spam emotions. You only need one to get your point across.

Actually, from the starcraft 2 site:

"Now, the dragoons of the past are all but gone. The sacred shrine that was dedicated to the creation of the dragoons was infested by the zerg and lost along with the protoss homeworld itself."

The Stalker is a Dark Templar version of the Dragoon, so the production of armoured units isn't really lost forever. In time, the DTs will perfect their armoured unit shrines and factories and start making units as powerful as Dragoons or Immortals. So, if you think that Blizz might completely remove Immortals from later games, I don't think it's likely at all.

I belive that Immortals can attack air units. What makes you think that they can't?

As for an in-game build limit on immortals, I find that highly unlikely. If you think that only a few dozen of them exist, you are wrong. There is probably a massive number of them in existence, far more than you could exhaust in a game even if you purposely tried to get them killed. Besides, implementing a build limit would just mean unnecessary coding and balancing for Blizzard... and that means Starcraft 2 is released later.

I think when something stronger comes into hand you take that and leave the other version behind, because it seems to me to of what I've seen here is that your saying the Immortals are very strong and it seems like the Dragoons don't surpass this at any level except for limits and air attacking. Who know if they attack air yet, we just have to wait and see. I think limits should be out of the game like just as my opinion if you put a limit on what you can build then it's like your not actually running your own army except for the max limit, like in war they don't have limits except when like Senates, House of Representatives, or the President says so or whatever. Usually when you can afford the loss and the money then you go for it.

I dont think blizzard runs its multiplayer the way it runs single player, they wont put the immortal unit limit lower just becuase of the story line.

Because they have not attacked a single air target in the entire demo video.

Let me ask you that same question.Â* What makes you believe that they can attack air units?Â* Right now there is more grounds to believe that they can't attack air, rather than they can.

In the final battle they had many chances to but never does.Â* I know there is this whole scripting thing thrown in the equation.Â* But to me, it looks like the only scripting was unit movement/placement.Â* It seems that all the units were just randomly attacking the closest targets, and really not much more.Â* BCs fired yamatos and tanks sieged, but that's about it.

This of course is not solid proof, but it definitely leans it toward no air attack.Â* The same thing for reapers.

Well, the Immortal is supposed to be an improvement over the Dragoon. It would be a terrible improvement if it was unable to attack air units.

If you look at the animated picture of the Immortal in the Starcraft 2 homepage, it points its cannons upwards. It doesn't make sense that it would be able to do that but not be able to fire at air units.

Finally, the Immortals' description in the homepage says that it provides support to the Zealots.Since the Zealots cannot attack air, it makes sense that their ideal support unit would be able to.

Both immortals and stalkers are versions of goons. With stalkers being the offensive aspect with air attack(not to mention separate air and ground attack cooldown), it wouldn't be a big deal for immortals to lack the ability.

Immortals pointing their weapons upwards is only their idle animations. They do this when they're just sitting around.

A ranged unit can provide support to melee units without having an air attack. Also, on the same web site, they specifically point out the stalker's ability to attack both ground and air. I could also argue that since it was mentioned for stalkers but not immortals, immortals absolutely has no ground attack, but that would still just be an assumption on my part.

But if it can point upward, why cant it do that and shoot at the same time? Blizzard wouldent do something that dumb. (Atleast I hope not)

some of you may have seen this video some may not have but it shows that units sutch as the immortals and take down units like there nothing but then taken down the same way

This is the same thing as arguing that the colossus has an air attack.Â* It's a ranged unit, and so tall that it can be attacked by anti-air attacks.Â* Reapers must have an air attack as well, since marines do, just as easy for reapers to point their weapons up. Not to mention these boys can fly up.

Appearances have nothing to do with game design or balance.

But then again, immortals just might have an air attack, who knows.Â* However, my stance is, I won't assume they do until I see something that shows they do.

They should make the immortals less clumpsy. The dragoons always have trouble getting through tight spaces, they look very clumspy too. I wish the immortals can be improved from that and have better mobility.

It's very illogical that the colossus is so tall but cannot attack air.......

Blizzard should stop borrowing pathing A.I. from Barbie adventure games for the walker units.

Tassadar: Dragoons, march through the pass and reinforce our forward outpost!

Dragoon: What did you say? Walk through the sunken-colony covered Zerg base while singing the 12 Days of Starcraft song ? Aye aye, cap'n!

Yeah... I remember that installation mission from the original Protoss campaign. It took me five minutes to get the Dragoon to walk up the stairs :-\

i wonder how pathing will work for things like reapers, if you click on a piece fo terrain thats on a cliff, they should jsut fly up there shoudnt they, i hope they dont forget to write that bit of code

NotDeadYet

Maybe you can toggle that option on and off. That would be useful if you wanted them to escort some units that couldn't jump up and down cliffs, to avoid an enemy base on top of the cliff and walk around it, etc.

I dont know about you guys, but Immortals look alot like the StarWars droid Destroyer, exept a bit thicker and can't bend into a roling position. Would be funny if the could in the finnal game. lol

I have have studied the Starcraft2 gameplay video a little bit. And I counted have many times an Immortal had to be striked by the Siege Tanks before the shield was broken. I counted 17 times!!
If the siege tank in sc2 has the same dammage as in sc1 (70dmg), the Immortals shields have to got as much as something around 1190hp (17*70).
That is pretty much, isn't it?

Remy

Hard counters is a big thing they're pushing for SC2.

As far as Blizz is concerned, siege tanks were never meant to take down immortals anyway.

It seems you studied the video way too much instead of reading the actual description of the Immortal. Also you seem to have forgotten about the Reapers making short work of the Immortals. Surely that would seem odd if the mighty and venerable Siege Tanks could not take out an Immortal but a tiny infantry unit with dual pistols can.

Yea whatever, Barbie's magical pony is more graceful than a Dragoon ANY DAY OF THE WEEK!? Let's not forget how much more well balanced the game would be if Zerglings could use Ken's "Radiant Pogo Stick", in order to hop into the air and do crack attacks on battlecruisers. Point remains the in game play superiority of Barbie Magical Adventure games are still unsurpassed, and Starcraft is seriously in a distant second place in that regard!!
