View Full Version : [Tutorial] Speed up Firefox
1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
2. Alter the entries as follows: (by double clicking them)
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once. (I changed mine to 100, works great.)
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves

 Great stuff man! Thanks for the info
Will this like open an area in your computer that might let viruses though easier? Or pop-ups?
Edit: Do you have to press save, or something? Or is it automatic? ???

Great job! Firefox's speed was one of it's turnoff's for me but now it's great. I finally could say firefox is better than IE in every way.
@Rex: I think this only tweaks the browser settings to allow the browser to make multiple requests, so it shouldn't make you more prone to viruses unless the site had a virus on it in the first place. I'm no expert, though, don't take my word for it.
Youtube keeps telling me an error

Weird, mine's working fine. And it's never happened before?
edit: I tried doing this on IE but it won't work. Not that I expected it to.
edit (again): I found the tweak for IE. If you're interested, click here for IE registry tweak (http://pcs.suite101.com/article.cfm/speed_up_internet_explorer)

That sohouldn't matter. It isn't firefox's job to stop your computer from being hacked and infected. You should have anti-virus and firewall programs for that.
Thats actually one of the saddest things I have seen is that some people switch over to firefox because somone told them its more secure and now these people have the strange idea that just having FF will make their PC immune to viruses and never get anti-virus software.

Oh and Wlck is that the registry tweak that prevents Windows form using some of your connection for its own purposes of is it different?

Firefox is definitely more secure then IE in some ways, but it indeed isn't impenetrable.
But let's not screw this topic up with a discussion like this, use the browser battle topic (http://www.starcraft2forum.org/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=47&topic=3940.90) for that. ;)

Yes that's what I am saying. Firefox is not impenetrable and should not be treated as such. Always have a firewall running and do routine virus scans
Wow! Since someone bumped this I got 2 powerups! How come no one saw this before?

@Bird: It's pretty much the same exact thing as LT's except for IE. It just makes more requests to the server so it loads faster.
People say more viruses are released on to IE, since its the most people use. I also have a Internet Security, and Firewall.

Just wanted to make sure. There's a registry hack that opens up some bandwidth by preventing windows from using your connection to query the MS server for updates or send error reports. It basically screws everything up and prevents auto update from running and manually downloading OS patches is a pain in the ass because there's so many of them

Probably because it's in a pretty new child board...
