It really depends on what I am working with, if the item calls for real profit and/or uniqueness, I would probably have to make my own renders, filters, etc. etc. However I see nothing wrong in using pre-made brushes, renders, filters, actions. They are available for a reason and the author(s) usually include a license and terms of usage with their creation.
P.S.
That is quite a nice board design.

Make my own? If you mean stocks and renders, then rarely, when I draw something I don't scan it and make digital stuff out of it too much. If you mean grundge brushes, vectors, smudge brushes etc. then yes.
The font could be a little better on the board, complementary colors aren't everything.
*Oh, and I don't make my own fonts unless I really want to, rarer than making my own renders.
