I am beta testing One Care and the new version is pretty good. (free virus scans and online backups are also good)

I use the Symantec Anti-Virus program, however you spell it. It's pretty good. Whenever I run something it stops the program if viruses are detected on it, before it damages the system.

You got just the anti-virus or the whole system works package that does backups and spyware too amongst other things?

Hmmm BoP why you want to know what virus protection people use? Are you trying to learn what we use so you can find loop holes and hack into our computers?!

Ok sorry I'm a little tired so my posts are a little... off right now. Any well I'm not sure what the name of mine is I use it but I can't remember right now I'll go check.

I run Symantec AntiVirus. It works really well and stops me from opening files and websites that it thinks may have viruses before the virus has a chance to enter my computer.

i use mcafee, it does the usual back up, anti-vir, anti-malware, anti-spyware, anti-adware and prevention of running viruses

@BoP: Just the antivirus. I don't know if there's a whole system package you're talking about.

There's Norton System Works. It has everything and the kitchen sink (most of it useless crap that slows down your computer)

Norton AVG still has a hole in its security. used it and still got infected, it doesn't detect the autorun programs of viruses, AVG + nhatqualngan virus = total ownage

OMG ! ^^ U understand about antiviruses nothing... Norton? That housewives soft? McAfee? That antivirus looks like a banner. Live Care? Microsoft don't have antivirus making experience, it's fresh product, but not bad, because it should perfectly intergrate with Windows(theorically, bcos same manufacturer).

Tell you what, guys. B'cos some of you are living in America, some in Asia, you are victims of antivirus companies marketing. Best antivirus solutions, according to many antivirus comparision tests are NOD 32 and Kaspersky Antivirus 7. I personally have installed Kaspersky Internet Security 7 now, and previous versions before, and never had the problems like system crash or random mouse jumping ^^ It works... just perfect. NOD 32 is good soft, but not my taste, because it's interface, but my friend have it installed on his old-crap PC, and says that it takes minimum resources with almost same security as Kaspersky. In many soft discussion forums there's always war between NOD 32 and Kaspersky users, who's the king antivirus etc. Norton, McAfee and Live Care are outsiders on these.

I don't believe in Anti-Virus software. It doesn't work.

I just use registry scanners and don't download random things.

I use NOD32, and by use I mean it just sits there on taskbar and gives out an alert once in a while (rather rarely), but I guess it works :p

You reset the votes, but didn't but symantic on there? I think a few others also said they used symantic virus protection as well.

BirdofPrey

norton=symantec

Wlck742

Far as I know, Symantec made Norton antivirus, but Symantec antivirus is a different program than Norton antivirus.

BirdofPrey

I did not know that.

I used to use McAffee

NOD32 is the best anti virus and I think most people use it.

Norton Anti-virus Internet Protection 2007

Say what you want to say about Norton but I have been just fine and dandy with them for years. This program runs quite well on a Pentium 4 with 512 MB of RAM.

I prefer a full security suite, antivirus, firewall, anti spyware all in one. For this the Norton / McAfee products are awful, they slow the machine down as soon as you put them on and interfere with other programs. I use Zone Alarm Pro security suite. Not had a security breach in two years and it costs the same as Norton Anti Virus on it's own 8)

I use Zonealarm, it is very good
You should try one day

I used Zone Alarm Pro for a year. When my friend come on my PC he made such eyes O_O and called me n00b. I was confused when he installed Kaspersky Internet Security, and after 1st scan it found 50+ viruses(I use torrents a lot ^^). Zone Alarm has great firewall, but antivirus really sux(imo), and if compare it's firewall with Kaspersky Anti-Hacker, included in soft I mentioned, they are both same in security level(not unneeded advanced options), but KIS uses much less system RAM.

ok, so i un-installed mcafee for one reason........ i agree that it slows down the pc big tme.... and now my pc is running faster than ever and my net connection sped up too... so i just used the zone alarm and spybot wich reminds me >>> my tea timer (spybot application) doesnt autorun? anyone help me with this?

PKZeppelin
11-02-2007, 02:27 AM
Spybot is actually outdated. Try Ad-Aware. But them both are uneffective really. Most of antiviruses deal with spyware better than so-called antispyware.

BinaryBanshee
11-02-2007, 02:44 AM
My experience of ad-aware is that it's next to useless as it only deals with a very very narrow type of spyware. Kaspersky or ZoneAlarm full security suites will provide good anti spyware.

PKZeppelin is right Spybot has become a bit outdated, but you can use Spybot and SpywareBlaster together to provide good protection. This combination was actually recommended by my ISP and it works well.

I'm very surprised at that. Kaspersky is the best at heuristic virus detection (detecting a virus by it's viruslike behaviour before it has actually been discovered and put on official av updates), but you must have not been updating ZoneAlarm. 50+ viruses is an awful lot for any AV program to miss! :o

Well I was always updating it, I'm not statistic-pc-user. That was 3 years ago. Maybe present ZA Pro is more useful? But I don't care, I lost a trust to them. I was looking on many antivirus comparision lists, had tried many of them by myself, so honestly can say that the best choice is NOD 32 or Kaspersky solutions, especially if you are very active user.

i installed kaspersky like 40 mins ago and it killed my computer, all my programs repeditivly froze and took me a good half hour to fix.

PKZeppelin

Yeah, it was probably fully infected, so you didn't patiently wait while scan finish, and just removed it ^^

i use none of those, i use 4 programs that have specialized tasks than one "take care of them all" programs

all of them slowed my computer down so much that it was like a pentium derived celeron processor running windows vista.

i use comodo firewall, avg free 7.5, avira antivira and spybot search and destroy (i configured all of them to make them work at their best and so far not even one virus!!!) lol

Avira Antivir, only problem is that the hacked version dont work on Vista...
I have no AV right now, but i downloaded a 30 days trial and it detected no viruses, so I think my Firewall etc. stops everything.

ah well, you were supposed to get the antivira classic edition, its just that everytime it updates, it gives an ad but all you need to do is press ok, it doesnt bother me

Well, i used to have avast! but i deleted it. Even quick scans took a long time and it took slowed my computer down a LOT. I'm still in the search for one now.
