In fact it's only second sig made by myself, so it's beginner-level. ::) I used GIMP 2.4, choosed retro-style font, some tricks with blur and distort, going to sleep now

Here it is :)

Great signature! Where did you find the tutorial for the letters?

I did it by myself with wind effect...

How do you get it to work. I tried letters on mine, but for some reason, it doesn't load right when I download it on from image shack to the forum. It comes out pixelated :\

Try to use antialasing filter and save your image in .png format. I tried to save mine in .jpg, so rounded corners was pixelated, but .png takes more space.

I have to say Its awesome, especially for your second one.

I coudln't draw a stick figure well, or for that matter, a sig.

So I won't :P

Lol, watcher. Sounds like you have as much experience as I do. I've tried to make one, but the only access I have to make stuff is paint, and I'm having trouble getting it to work. Yeah, I'm a noob :P

I actually don't like the text too much, it is counter flow. Your sig has a left to right flow with the head and tail while your text goes up & down.

my best achievement as far as graphics go was redrawing 8-bit characters pixel by pixel
Laird's note: pixel meaning very little square, about 2x2

but it's pretty much the same as retyping a piece of text ^^

There is no transparency in jpg format and the one in png is not done properly (displays plain white) in older IE browsers. Since your signature doesn't have a lot of colours it might be a good idea to try saving it as a gif.

I tried to save in .gif, but rounded edges looked bad, dunno why. In other hand, if dude is using IE6, it's his problem that he don't update it to IE7, not mine. :)

Transform everything into png huh? Well I chose a random hosting site (imageshack) and that doesn't do that. In fact I'd say very few sites would do such a thing ;D

But each to his own I guess. I like gif sigs because they occupy less space and it kind of shows that you can do cool stuff in a small image. Tip: you can preserve the smooth edges if you stroke the outside of the image with a darkish grey. Here's an example. That's the worst attitude towards constructive criticism. He may know a lot of stuff... so what? The aim of the picture is to entertain/look nice. It did that to PKzeppelin so who cares about 'flow' and all those fancy stuff? I'd also like to add that there haven't been too many images around that SD liked as they were.

What's the point with that 'flow' ? When i posted sig in gamereplays.org, each dude criticised that flow is bad. This is just a canon in sigs fashion/unwritten rules, imo main idea of sig is to be different from other users, not showing the technic you did it with...

the aim of the sig is what the creator wanted to achieve with it. If you want it just to look nice and it does it, it's great. Other will want to use proper tehiniques, flow etc. to show their skill and that's good too as long as they're happy with it.

imo

The funny thing is that these 'experts' don't consider the possibility that the break in flow is on purpose to create tension within the image.

You see I can talk smart as well :)

You're right, ignoring advice is better. Going with the attitude, WTF? My text sucks? My render is obscured? Half my sig could fit in better? Well SCREW THAT! It looks nice and entertains, I don't need criticism to get better.

If he were going for a tense feel a clipping mask would have done wonders, maybe a more rugged text too since that was his focus. Flow doesn't make a signature necessarily better, but it does help direct how a viewer looks at your piece, generally a piece with good flow makes it easier on the eyes to follow and the viewer thinks it's more enjoyable.

If you're going to break the rules, be blatant. Completely shatter the rules, don't hold back which I also felt you did. It's good you had fun with it, as you should, and next time you do art you have something to improve on.

Also, I did like some stuff here, but a "OMFG! KICK ASS" is as useful as if I didn't post at all, in fact, it'd be less useful, I'd be taking up space for people with criticisms.
