I was sitting with a bad headache last Saturday and watched people argue in the chat. It wasn't productive in any way so I thought I'd change that. Four hours later the first version of Starcraft2forum.org Arena was ready. It's a basic hero arena type game, you take the role of a member of the forum (well, a unit named after a member really) and try to kill everybody else, either in a free for all or working in teams. After some playtesting on Saturday I got some reactions so now I'm working on the next version, and that's where you get to help. I need you to either post in this thread, tell me in the chat or pm me what kind of unit you'd like to be and what color you want for its name. All official changes will be posted in this thread. If the unit you'd like to be is already taken then you can send me some minerals and buy the right to that unit.

Units now in the game:

I'm going to re-balance all units, to make the game more playable. I'll calculate Resource Points, by adding the cost of the unit in minerals and gas (RP=minerals+gas)then I'll work out dmg/RP, life/RP, etc... Then it is easy for me to work out the new stats,I just decide a number of RP to convert the units to. The formula isn't worked out yet since I'm not sure about the value of vespene gas (http://www.starcraft2forum.org/forums/index.php?topic=4608.msg118779#msg118779). Please post your opinions in that thread.


Some examples on how I'm trying to convert units:
Zergling: 5 dmg, 35 life, 0 armor, 25 RP (25 minerals) => 0.2 dmg/RP, 1.4 life/RP
Marine: 6 dmg, 40 life, 0 armor, 50 RP (50 minerals) => 0.12 dmg/RP, 0.8 life/RP
Fenix (zealot): 40 dmg, 240 life, 240 shield, 2 armor, 200 RP (200 minerals) => 0.2 dmg/RP, 1.2 life/RP, 1.2 shield/RP, 0.01 armor/RP
Vulture: 20 dmg, 80 life, 0 armor, 75 RP (75 minerals) => 0.266 dmg/RP, 1.07 life/RP

If I decide on converting all units to 378 RP they would get the following stats:
Zergling: 76 dmg, 529 life, 0 armor
Marine: 45 dmg, 302 life, 0 armor
Fenix (zealot): 76 dmg, 454 life, 454 shield, 4 armor
Vulture: 101 dmg, 403 life, 8 armor

As you can see from this math, cheeper units will get better stats and expensive units will get lower stats. Hero units will get all their upgrades, it's in their cost.


There are still a few things I need to work on. Life and shields might go up a bit (x6.9 or so:P) and I still haven't figured out a way to factor in the cost of the unit in supply/psi/control, or decided if that's important at all... I'd also like some ideas for the terrain. Right now it's a kind of maze on installation terrain, with dark corners, long corridors and a few traps.

The example stats are way off. The Zergling would pwn pretty much everything. And also you should correct the Zealot damage to 16 since there's no situation where it'd only use one of its blades.

My only suggestion for this whole thing is to use a different formula for the hitpoints. Battles should take some time, include a lot of micromanagement, and with those hitpoints and damage values this would not be possible. I'd say multiply the recalculated hitpoints by 5.

Well LordKerwyn, I don't think I'll allow any flying units in the map. Flying is just too powerful.... Sometimes...

I'll do the stats for you anyway. Converted to 378 RP (with 100 gas = 100 minerals)
Gantrithor: 2 dmg (per interceptor), 233 life, 145 shield, 1 armor

As you can see it's really big nerf. The original unit is worth 1300 RP (700 minerals, 600 gas) according to StarEdit.

Well just because i want to point out ther flaw in your RP ill be the jim raynor marine look at the stats for that. I can understand the flying units but your gonna need to rebalance the map because the RP system is gonna ake some units op.

I know Jimmy has a lot of life, but he can't heal in any way and he uses stimpack too... I know the RP way isn't perfect, but it's a start. And I'm not allowing all gound based units either.

A way of rebalancing is to change the terrain. A map eith short corridors and corners to hide in is better for melee units, because the wouldn't get shot down as easy as in a open map. I'm still working on that...

OMG Im pissed I wrote a smalll essay on this and my internet bugged out and i lost it.

I personally prefer Tassadar over any other unit (expecially when he is in his carrier :P) so if you will let me Ill be Tassadar.

For anyone curious Jimmy would have 1512 hp 136 and stim with the current system. (Ill leave the imagineing of a battle with him up to you)

My suggestion would be to scrap the RP system and use a more baseline system that works off a units theme. For example have a baseline of 200 ho and 20 damage (so armor plays a bigger role) Here is soem example units to go along with my thinking.
Name       HP     Shields     Damage  Armor
Zergling    110     0              8          0            The zergling is a get in your face hit and run oponent so while those stats seem bad you have to remember his speed in attack and damage.
Marine     100     0              17         0       (no stim) The marine is your avaergae foot soldier that can release hell from range with his assualt and thus relies on fighting at range.
Jimmy      110    0               7          1       (with stim) Jim is an oponent that uses hit and run tactics combined with durabiliy to live a battle he also has the ability to unleash a hail of bullets mowing down everything in his path.
Fenix       100     100          10          2/1 (armor/shield armor) The stalwart zealot Fenix is for his great endurance and his ability to never seemingly die 200 combined hp with armor exemplfies that fact.

I have no idea if this would work any better than your RP system its just a suggestion so take use it how you will.

Im not sure who that is directed at but with the RP system Dragoon Fenix would have 43 damage 227 hp 227 shields and 6 armor.

I would probably have it more like:
Name      HP    Shields    Damage  Armor
Fenix      100    90          11          2/2      While Fenix may now be in the exoskeleton of a dragoon he is still as stalwart a warrior as ever and with a whopping 190 combined hp and 2/2 armor he will take a long time to go down just as before.

Im not sure what you mean zenithar those are just my suggestion of what the stats should be like its up to Ximnipot69 if he wants to use them at all he is the map maker im an ameteur at best and this isnt my map im just giving my input.


EDIT: @Fenix I figure he isnt as strong phsycicly because he lost his body but since he is more machine his shields have better armor. (This is just some reasoning it would be boring if both versions were to much alike)

Jimmy would not have 1512 hp and 136 dmg. His cost is wrong, a typo. All other heros cost about twice as much as a normal unit of the same type.

And, yes, Fenix in a dragoon would have lower life and shields in this system than the zealot version. The dragoon costs twice as much but has the same life and shields. The only differance is that it has 1 more armor and 125% more dmg.

Gasmaskguy had a nice idea. Split the zergling hero into two with (about) half the stats.

Anyboby can get (almost) any ground unit that they want. The mineral part is just my way of deciding who gets it if more then one wants it. And if ImaGiNe. wants to a normal goliath instead of the hero archon thar's fine.
