View Full Version : Old vs. New
Okay, there's quite a lot of confusion over this "Same number of units in 1 as 2" thing, so I decided to make a list of the units in each so we can make a comparison. I'll do the Protoss first and as more information is released I'll add the Terran and Zerg to the mix. I'll also be using the existing sticky of "List of Confirmed Units" as a base, if that's alright.

Also, it's called the Soul HUNTER. Though Soul Seeker sounds pretty cool...
You also did not add the rumoured new aerial unit - The Star Relic. You may want to add "(Rumored)" or something like that after its name, just so we know that it hasn't been seen in any videos.
Also, the Mothership probably does not count as a new unit. Blizzard has stated that the Zerg and Terrans will not be getting "ultimate units" like the mothership. This means that whatever ability they get will not replace an existing unit. So, if the Mothership does replace a unit, the Zerg and Terrans will have just as many unit types as the Protoss as well as their own special abilities - Which is unbalanced.
Buildings (SC 1):

Total buildings: 16
Buildings (SC 2):

In addition, there are 3 unidentified Protoss structures shown in the demo video.
Total buildings: 10, plus the Warp Gate and Phase Cannon upgrades

Dark templar: Just like in the first game the dark templar is a stealth unit that wreaks havoc to any force foolish enough to leave home without a detector. any new special abilities have yet to be revealed (more) (less)
theres another topic on that

I was just thinking about how before these new units came out and boosted the unit count, we were all assuming that the races had the same amount of units as SC1. I believe that someone said that the makers of the game said this, which would verify its validity.
Maybe we misinterpreted what the makers said...ie maybe they said "Each race will have the same number of units." - We took this to mean the same number of units as SC1, but maybe they meant that each race will have the same number of units as each of the other races.
Mods might want to move this into each of the " What replaces the *blank*?" topics if what I'm saying makes sense
I'm not going to add the Dark Templar or Star Relic, because they aren't confirmed. Thanks for the Collossus tip-off, though.

No no no, it annoyed me too that everyone was asuming that because I have read it and it sayd: Roughly the same numbers. In Blizzard language thats: We will add a few new units but don't expect a ****load of them.

@ Coalescence - ahhh i see
@ pix - I meant that if what I said held true (that when they said "same number," it meant between races, not between SC1 and SC2) that they might want to put my post into the topics like "what does the colossus replace?" and so on and so forth to keep people from posting on irrelevant topics, even though they are probably dead by now

A picture can't confirm anything. A video can, with real gaming mechanics and stuff. A picture can be made by, well anyone!

It's in official screenshots though so it's as good as confirmed.
By the way, I found this picture of the Citadel of Adun, that confirms it's in the game.

The Star Relic unit IS confirmed by a major publication, and it is an aerial unit, much like the Arbiter. (Consider the Star Relic a second generation Arbiter!)

omg citadel of adun...what a waste of base space; I mean i loved leg enhancements, but citadel was such a pain in the ass

I think the only reason it existed was to keep people from teching up to templars too fast, and the leg enhancement is only to give it a purpose other than the stalling.

very true
it got so annoying though when it got late game and I'd cycle through my cluster of citadel/cy core/fleet beacon. etc looking for upgrades I hadn't researched and every time there was freaking nothing to do in the citadel of adun except listen to that gay sound whenever you clicked on it
*EDIT: I accidentally highlighted then moved a block of text into the middle of another sentence*

True to that, they could have given it more purpose.

Only thing they could really do with it is add more upgrades.

The only reason that buildings such as the citadel are important are for balance reasons. Due to escalated cost of buildings and units you could decide to choose advanced units with more potential and have very few numbers or alteratively have a large number of basic ground troops to start. For example the dreaded zerglings. If you could build templars from the very beginning, there really wouldn't be a need for Zelots over Dark templars.

For everyone complaining about how the citadel just takes up space... just blow it up after you get the upgrade and templar archives...
