View Full Version : Heroes Not Buildable In Multiplayer

If you read FAQs and various developer interviews they have stated that their will be no Hero's in multiplayer, if they are the gameplay won't even vaguely be centered on them. I am commenting on this because this forum is called "HEROES" and Ultimate Units. Obviously their will be heroes in the singleplayer campaign...and they probably won't be a huge departure from the hero types in the original, AKA hero is a more powerful version of a basic unit. Also expect the Protoss Mothership to have a hero version in the singleplayer, it just makes sense on too many levels. ::)

Well let me be more clear. Lets say the Star Relic is like the Arch High Templar, and only one could be built, meaning since only one can be built its a hero unit type. Make sense?

It half made sense. So what you're saying is that there's no mothership in multiplayer because it's a "hero-like" unit?

Hero version of Mothership? With like 2x more hp and such? imo just having normal mothership for free since the beginning of the mission would be enough

mh.. technically the mothership is a hero-unit. also in b.net
it's the strongest unit of all and u can only have once at the same time.
but if u compare it with the heroes from wc III it is very different. mostly of the fact, that its very cheap and can only be use in the mid or lategame. otherwise a hero has a special identity, character, personality... and all of them are missed by the mothership.. so its only a kind of a heroe, not a real one^^

what he is saying that in single player there probably will be a much stronger version of the mothership thats controlled by a charachter, lets pick a random one, artanis.

hm... let me explain on an example:

Some Aliens kidnaped u to their planet far far away from earth. After some experiments, which are gone very well, the don't want to bring u back to earth... they said: "If u pay the fuel, we'll bring u back..." From the earth u already know how expensive it is. So u try to get comftable with ur fate... 1 year left, 2 years left, 3 years left... slowly u forget how it was on earth and live there like the natives.

And the more u forget the earth, the more u like the aliens. And u habituate (OMG.. .so much translations for this ****ing word.. i hope i took the right one^^) also with the females ;)

Sooner früher oder später u know, what's ugly and what's beautiful. Aaaaand: U FALL I LOVE!

Ok... very long explenation, i know^^, but i wanted to say with it:
If u see over years strange things, how strange they are ever been, u will feel comftable with them. That's the same with protoss! I think about the observer-thread. Some persons find it cute (included me^^) but WTF? How can u find an obsi cool or cute????

I drunk a lot of energy-drinks today... i become crazy from this ****... sorry...

When the devs talked about heroes, I think they meant in the sense of leveling one up, getting stronger, and relying completely on a hero unit. Tis what made warcraft 3 soo much fun, yet so repetitive.

lol all i have to say is

Artanis: Explain this odd behavior. Stop poking me. What do i look like an ork? This is not warcraft in space. It's much more sophisticated. I know it's not 3-D.

lol i laughed when i saw the mention of warcraft ... and then laughed even harder when Gold chose Artanis XD

Edit: If you want Artanis to say these things just keep clicking him. You can to that to ALL units. not just heroes. Each and EVERY unit will say something different after a few repeative clicks. Just like in the trivia they asked what unit said what. They probably got most of the speech from doing this.

what i still dont get is why they can only build one story wise....so instead of having two powerful things lets just have one and store it in the base and surround it with cannons lol

Cause it's described as a flying city. You ever make a city fly? Ain't easy. Try doing it twice.

Not really. Catch it with low or no energy and it's toast. Or Science Vessel EMP and any good AA unit (lets say Battlecruiser) and it's toast.

well its kinda boring if they dont have heroes in multiplayer beacause i miss the part of sending in an hero with an atmy and making him go up some lvls
thats what i like about warcraft but starcrat is pretty much just making an army and sending it i love starcraft but it didnt give me the same felling without hero

Did you first play StarCraft after WarCraft 3 or something? Heroes do nothing but unbalance the game to a ridiculous amount. Especially when you take into account items like orbs especially the lightning orb. Give that to a Blademaster or a Demon Hunter and it can rape a retreating army. Heroes would be the worst addition to StarCraft.

A hero is supposed to be the ultimate versatile unit. It allows for a lot of interesting custom maps, too. I hope they leave the mechanic in the editor, but not in the game (multiplayer).

Well, I figure heroes are ok, considering what Warcraft is. If you played multiplayer, people found ways to make heroes work. I personally played WC III before SC, must say i love starcraft a lot more, but i still love warcraft III. Heroes just wouldn't work for SC, considering its plot and setting, that's not necessarily the case for WC

I am a map making god in WC3. Even if they don't have the WC3 hero mechanic I'm sure I will be able to make heroes work great in a SC2 custom map.

And what do you mean people found ways to make heroes work in WC3? Heroes were the focus of the game and everyone made heroes work. Although once I went from level 0 - level 13 in arranged team games (3v3 and 4v4) without using any heroes ever. I would mass footmen from 3 barracks and take out one of the enemy town halls while my allies made a feint assault on the opposite base so that they would all TP there. Then my allies would retreat after I destroyed the town hall. Usually the other team left after that. And they always lost.

1)What is the role of heroes in StarCraft II? Will they be the same as in StarCraft?

StarCraft II campaign heroes will fulfill roles similar to what appeared in the original StarCraft single player experience, but they will have even more unique abilities from standard units, and will be more innovatively integrated into the story campaign. Heroes will not be buildable in multiplayer.

yay!

Heroes doesnt belong in starcraft aggre on that point 100%. Tbh it doesnt belong in starcraft, as much as ghosts with nukes woudnt fit in Warcraft;) (unless dwarf engineers somehow possess that technology) :P

its not only imbalance heros bring but more the game feeling changes totally...
you send your hero with an army and will watch this single unit all the time... zomg my hero does XXXXX dmg
omg my hero is gonna die lets rescue him ... thats not sc to me same goes for sh as far as it gets stronger by the time .... thats just more rpg than rts...

Yeah and the unfortunate thing about motherships is that people will be like "oh no my mothership gotta protect it"
