I am amused that you keep bringing up famous on-screen actors. Sure their voices would probably be cool in SC2, but half of them have never voice-acted before and would probably just screw it up. The remaining half may have voice-acted in like a movie or 2 but that's it.

"Real" voiceactors, such as Robert Clotworthy, have been voiceacting since like, stone age or something. They know what they're doing, and they're doing it good.

And i know i mentioned it earlier, but MAN, i cannot believe Raynor is being voiced by some Bill Gates-lookalike! :o

Seriously, check up a picture on Mr. Gates, and then check out Mr. Clotworthy's picture... the resemblance is uncanny.

Be honest though, if you saw Hamill in something besides Star Wars would you be able to get your mind around him not being Luke? I don't think I could. The only person that could break their mold was Harrison Ford and I contribute that to the fact that he landed Indiana Jones instead of Burt Reynolds.

Yeah. There are programs to give the voices special effects. There are serveral user-made campaigns that use these programs to voice their protoss and zerg characters.

Well I always thought curt russel looked and acted more Raynorish then russel crowe. But i am used to the old voice actors. I think it wouldn't be the same if kerrigan didn't sound like kerrigan. I would probably not play the campaigns if i thought they sounded different or bad.

Because you need sound while playing in-game, like the notifying sound while using Terran when something is going on. So what if the actors don't really sound the same, they still sound the same to me. It's been 11 years since much of the voice acting for the original StarCraft had been done, so there's no real need to bash the actors, or Blizzard for that matter.

He looks exactly like the SC1 Jim. Look up some of the concept art of Jim Raynor from SC 1. If anything he;s a little more beefed up as SC1 jim was sorta gangly. You can't base what he should look like off those sc1 avatars. Those sucked nut.

Anyway I noticed something weird with the French version, about the voices : every character had some voices in Starcraft, but other voices in Brood War. Because other people made them. The French version is distributed by Ubi Soft. And Brood War not. That's why they have different voices.

The better ones :
- James Raynor got a more grave voice in Brood War, closer to the English voice. He had a normal voice in Starcraft.
- Zeratul had a voice of an old man in Starcraft, but a better one in Brood War.
- Kerrigan is the only character that the voice has not been modified.
- Mengsk's one ? A different one toward SC, but a better one.

The worst ones :
- Aldaris has a younger voice. In SC he had a voice of an old man.
- I heard Raszagal's original voice in English, but the French one sucks !
- Same thing for Dugalle's one : he has a voice of an old man in the English version, but a voice of a 30 years old man in the French one.
- Gen. Duke ? pfff ! He got a voice of a fool in Brood War. The same voice than the marine in Brood War.
- The marine got a worse voice in Brood War.
- the firebat : I like his voice in SC. But the French one sounds like gay ! ;D

You know...actually looking at Jimmy's avatar in SC1; it looks more like he has a closely shaved head. Follow the facial hair up. What looked like poorly rendered shadows sorta resembles peach fuzz.

I think it sucks that the guy who voiced Duke is dead. Then again did Duke live through BW anyways? I'm replaying the campaigns to touch back up on the storyline and I really can't recall ATM.

EDIT: BTW yes, peoples voices do change as they get older. Like in the Japanese version of Dragon Ball Z; Piccolo and Vegeta have deeper grittier voices as the series moved along. Yes, I admit it. I used to watch a lot of DBZ, yes enough to know these sort of things about the Japanese version. No, I don't watch it now....although it would do Adult Swim a world of good to replace Inuyasha with DBZ IMO.

Well for me I see it like this. When I heard the SC voices I was like oh wow this is a great voice. But if it was like Arnie or someone I'd be like oh wow that's so and so. I'd rather have a relatively unknown but really talented do the voices.

For the Zerg voices you could just take a trip to the zoo and record what you hear. I think you'd get a lot of good material there.

I really liked the Dragoon's voice. Sounds like a guy with a vocoder or similar. I hope the replacement unit for it (mind blank right now) has a similar voice.

For Terrans I really would like a multicultural feeling to it. Like a redneck accent for a firebat. An Arnieish one for the BC. A hard talking street accent for the reaper. And I think the Nomad should be the yuppie brigade. And something like a posh english accent for it maybe. In theory this works fine. But in reality would the accents be the same as here on earth. Cause they are growing up on different worlds and could sound very different to here.

Just a few ideas I had.
