from what we've seen the new protoss units are alot more dark templar than the SC1 were they were high templar sooo...
what if their was a dual tech tree were you pick were you want to lean by creating a building etc...
creating a high templar archives automatically sends you down this tech were your techs favor the Light variety
Eg.

high dark
carrier tempest

this would provide a more strategic favor and would mean you would make sacrifices on the fly
this would also work for terran or zerg eg for zerg you focus on a particular strain of DNA

what do you think ?

"High carrier"? That's good thinking! :) Unfortunately it won't be inplemented to the game. So we'll have to go with tempest.

Traditionally, after constructing the cybernetics core, a Protoss player would choose either Robotics, Air units or Templars. So in this case, the ground tech tree would affect air tech tree. So probably not a very good idea. and you have to think of how would the "high carrier" work. If the high carrier functions very different to the "dark tempest" (the new carrier) then the tech tree would be feasible :)

What is this Star Wars? :P

Though it could be interesting, following the light or darkness... (though most people might be annoyed when you can't create dark templars caused you chose the light...) I dunno, maybe a setting on some games, ya know some peeps like to build whatever in multiplayer games, so just have them choose their trait in the chat before the game or something like that... :-\

I recon that in order ot make the game more challenging people should be allowed to use both high and dark templars for tactical purposes, but this is a nice idea though.

yeah I like the idea too but I agree that it would be too complicated...

they would have to make every unit on either same similar in balance and abilities so that if your enemy threw something at you that could only be countered by a dark unit and you had gone for light units then you wouldn't be screwed

well, actually come to think of it, they could make the game unique... as in everybody could select their own upgrades and having their own gameplay habits. so everybody could be unique. something like how you spend your general points in c&c generals and general zero hour. how about heroes, like in wc3? maybe you can choose three heroes from a list of 4, like in warcraft 3. and what will the heroes be like? it's all just speculation though. can't wait for the game man. ;D

well if each race had multiple branches then that would mean lots of extra work to balance all those units, and for the hero thing...that would be kind of interesting..have a gametype that allowed heros or something :-\

Heroes should be done like in WC. I love the WC system for heroes and how they make each one completely unique.

it was a thought that i've been meaning to post.
another way to pull this off would be to have a pasific gamemode eg. if you pick to protect Aiur from the zerg you go high templar and if you pick to flee and intercept a terran fleet on its way to shakuras you go Dark templar. this would screw up the story i know but what if it was a alternate reality or something so it makes the effects long term rather than just lasting the match.
thoughts thoughts thoughts yummy thoughts...

oh so like "choose your own path through the story," and the tech that you go for relies on which option you choose? Interesting. It would give the campaigns more replay value (as if they will need it)

I like it

If you want branched tech tree then it would have to have its counterparts in the terran and zerg branches. UED and the rebels (federation is gone right?), Old cerebrates (make some up) and Kerrigan.

That's like choosing from 6 races before a game. You could be
-UED Terran
-Korhal Terran
-Cerebrate Zerg
-Kerrigan Zerg
-'Light' Protoss
-'Dark' Protoss

I don't like the ring of that.

Why not? It's 50% better value Warcraft :D

But Starcraft is all about the THREE races. Not the six, nine, or 1253252345.

Fine, Starcraft is now about THREE races, and SIX factions, happy? :S

No. I am not happy. Starcraft is about three distinct divisions of technology and government. THE Zerg and all zerg-like groups, THE Terrans and all terran-like groups, and THE Protoss and all-protoss like groups. No exceptions.

Well, the op was thinking of specialization as a way to make the game more strategic, if you rather have a unified race then that's a perfectly valid opinion.... I simply stated that if protoss were to differentiate then the other races should by right do so as well. If protoss ever get into civil war again between the high templars and dark templars, it's not impossible that they would become enemies with separate tech trees...

Hey, in the case of the High and Dark Templars, it's either 'Work Together for a Common Goal!' or 'We all die'. The Protoss won't be going through another civil war anytime soon. Stupid Aldaris.

i hated aldaris. he always acted like he was right, then at the end of the original he admits hes wrong, just so he can be an ass again at the beginning of BW.

i wasn't thinking about having them all different races just options in game or in special game mode.
just for the point of it i was crying out for having:
Orc. horde
Orc. corrupt
Orc. outlands
etc. in a warcraft.

Imagine how kick-ass their army will be now that they work together.
