View Full Version : Will Zerg Still Infest?

Often an ability that I forget about when i'm playing as the zerg but still sometimes fun to do if you're lucky enough to be able to do it. Nothing says I love you like a few infested marines. They weren't exactly the most useful unit but still, fun stuff if you ask me. Do you guys think that the zerg will still be able to infest or will this be something that we won't see again?
I could see the zerg being able to infest certain units like the dark archon could mind control them but I don't see much beyond that.

I certainly hope so. it is the core of who the Zerg are. What I would like to see is an entire infested tech-tree. Inferior to regular, but good for specialized things.

Thats really a good idea, infested Tech-Trees could be very usefull. For example an infested barracks could produce a strange unit with strengths and weaknesses. This of course, would have to be fair, and the other races will need a counter ability.

i sincerely hope they still can. if they can't, then RIP

Maybe they'll have face hugger like things. Like the original zerg that lived on Zerus and gained control of the bigger life forms. Sorta like a zerg mind control. Maybe zergify the unit a bit too.

two words: infested critters
you move the, they dont suspect a thing, then click click click, and BOOM

I'd just kill all the critters just to be on the safe side.
After they made the mechanical critters in WC3 I started to kill any I came across. I'm sure one was a mechanical critter because it was walking straight into my base not in random directions like real ones.
Once I was playing StarCraft and one of the computers randomly killed a critter. I had a cloaked unit nearby and saw the whole thing. It was a group of firebats and marines and they just turned and shot this Ragnasaur that was walking near a ramp. No joke.

paragon so i wasn't the only one who noticed that... i was like eh... so i decided to do power overwhelming and later on when i looked at the critter again couple of tanks and battlecruisers joined the fun of blasting the poor critter

yes, infesting critters is a good idea. if a queen or a new unit similar to a queen kills a critter then maybe an infest ability can be used so then the critter corpse will spring 3 or more zerlings. adds more units for the swarm 8)

i mentioned in some other place that mindcontrolled critters should remain neutral to enemies so that they dont get autotargeted unlike in original sc, so players need to be actively aware of possibly spies

Infested tech tree? All the zerg units are already infested in a way. They infest the best races and use them the way its used best. Should be only one kind of infested terran.

Looks like the rumor of the succubus might be the answer to the infesting question. As the thread says, they might have an ability to take over a unit for a short period of time and when that duration is up they explode dealing splash damage either to enemies or anything around. There could always be more infestations and I love the idea of an infesting tech tree.

You guys haven't read about the Zerg Succubus???? It can sorta infest a unit, as in take it over for a short time then the unit blows up damaging things around it. As for infested tech-trees, COOL! like in Warcraft 3 the undead have what are those called? The sentinel stuff... Satyrs! yeah. and the buildings were....corrupt tree of life.

Yeah, you didn't know that? It's the biggest strategy in Korea right now!

first of all, I thought the succubus was just a rumor, and secondly, mechanical critters? was it like something you could by at a merchant? i never played WC3 online - only two or three times and with my friends who were good

Corrupted Tech? Soon enugh that'll make a new race, which certainly gets rid of the orginaility and of course, kills the balance of the game. And corrupted terrans or some sorta corrupted unit shuld be in the game, as it suits with the game story

I think that the Zerg should deffinetly be able to infest certain buildings like in SC. I hope they do away with suicidal marines though, lameness. You should be able to actually have REAL infested marines that can still use their Guass Rifles or maybe use a melee attack of some sort. That way they stick around and are actually a useful attacking unit. Now that would rock! Maybe... infested protoss... remember Duran??? Don't go forgetting good ol' Duran and his Zerg/Protoss Hybrids? I bet they make an apearance in SC2? I think I am ganna open a topic on this actually.

i think the zerg should infest. not just certain buildings, but all of them, not just a cruddy command center. yeah infested kerrigan and duran. but image infested zeratul or infested fenix xD

infesting every building would turn infestation into a gimmick. There is no point in infesting every building and it would completely ruin balance.

Personally i resent the idea of an "Infested" tech tree. The Zerg doesn't need an Infested Tech Tree, the only reason i would ever see it in the game would be purely out of story reasons, and ONLY in the story mode/campaigns.

Like the satyrs in warcraft 3 with their corrupt ancients.

Lol, they where purple xD
Anyway, what about another infested unit that comes from the infested command centre? We've got banelings, so lets get a non-suicidial infested unit save?
paragon

Well purple is an evil color in the warcraft universe.
If there was a non suicidal terran infested unit what would it's purpose be?
Nikzad

about infesting every building:
i think the system they have now is good because you have to think about the scarcity and defenses of a command center...if you could infest every building then you could get infested units much more easily by getting at the less protected run-of-the-mill buildings

wouldn't zerg infesting protoss make them like... xel'naga's perfect creation?
Nikzad

yes it would, probably, although the Xel probably have more sophisticated ways of doing it

I can't really think of why the zerg couldn't infest other bases. I mean, the protoss could build any factions base with all the units if they got lucky enough, and that didn't even make a lick of sense. So, at the very least, its possible. Personally, I wouldn't mind the zerg having the infest ability, so long as the terrans get a remote ICBM.

remote icbm? whats that? like controlling zerg or something?

Well, you know how the nukes of starcraft needed a ghost up until it dropped. Well, a remote one would be something like the ghost only needing to target the building once, than the icbm would drop no matter what. Something that would basically double or tripple it's usefulness.
I am, of course, assuming the protoss can still jack building units. So the Terran should have something to compensate...and a hail of nukes would be 'bout the only thing I can think of that would have the power...
