You cannot even fathom the meaning of "difficult" until you have died literally hundreds of times and not scratched the easiest 10% of a game. Nethack (http://www.nethack.org/common/index.html) is a game renowned for its incredible brutality. people can play it for years and never finish it (I can testify to that). It seemingly kills players at random, except it isn't random: supposedly every attempt is winnable, every death is avoidable. There is just so much you can do, and have done to you, and so much to work through, and since the levels and items are randomly generated, you can memorize nothing but overall strategies.

Yes, it is a text-based game, but it is a game so difficult that it is doomed to only be enjoyed by nerds with enough obsession to basically walk into their own slaughter hundreds (if not thousands) of times before achieving anything.

The lyrics seem really weird, but I swear, all of this is the kind of stuff that goes on in the game. "...Running from the D's and Ls and killing all the os ... you never ID all your stuff until your at-sign dies."

GM_k: the gameplay is basically wandering around in a text-graphics dungeon, trying to reach the bottom, retrieve the Amulet of Yendor, then get out, fight through the higher planes, and present it to your god (each class has a different god, too). The really interesting thing about it is that, just about anything you can imagine can be done. Need to get rid of a piece of cursed armor? Disintegrate it with a scroll of Destroy Armor, have a nymph come along and steal it from you, dip it into a potion of holy water, pray to your god to have the curse removed. There are many ways to save yourself from tricky situations, but just as many to get into them.

Read a spellbook when you have a low intellect score, you might end up being blinded, stunned, or teleported to a random spot on the level. The expensive book you just bought for 600 gold might then crumble to dust. Maybe you read it in a shop while holding unpaid items. After you teleport, the Shopkeeper will then call the Keystone Kops on you, and they'll throw pies at you(blinding you, unless you wipe the goo off) and beat you with rubber hoses while the Shopkeeper (one of the fiercest creatures in the game, I might add) makes his way to you to kill you. If you're a wizard, your default robe of magic resistance will protect you until his wand wears out, but after that? A couple of solid, old-fashioned blows to the head will do you in for good.

No but when I say style I mean what abilities I'm using.
I have all fast ones that do moderate damage but they're for a few hits then I back off. It works well against bosses because they can't touch me then but this one... phew.

Fun and brutally violent.

3rd person fighting game. You against large groups of enemies that all work Hell and your arm is imbued with a holy power.
You can purchase or find attacks that scale in power as you go through the game.
By buying scrolls or finding them again, you can use them to slow down time as you use a scroll to do a certain special move that's high powered but there's one called the Ball Buster I think it was. Your character (who I can't remember. Stopped playing a while ago) winds up for a huge kick... and then lightly pangs the enemy in the nuts.
Most of the humour in this game is pretty inappropriate. But it's still funny and a well designed game.

It's the lightest super attack in game but very nice for a laugh during boss fights.

I was playing it the other day. Amazingly fun game (Though as ninja games go, I prefer Tenchu 3 or Shinobi), but man oh man, sometime you wanna break the controller over your knee.

Farcry on the hardest setting (realistic I think) is hard because you die in one or two shots and in the later half there are mercenaries AND genetically altered super monkeys out to kill you. And it's dark a lot of the time when the super monkeys are out and about.

I'll say a few.

Devil May Cry 3 on the Dante Must Die difficulty level is kinda tough. Make the smallest mistake and even the most basic enemies tear you apart. And naturally non of your weapons really harm those suckers.

Guitar Heroes with the expert difficulty take some "getting used to". I love it, though.

Well there is a difference between Hard and Frustrating. Nethack is very hard but very fair-your enemys are (mostly) just as mortal as you, even the mighty Demogorgon falls to the even mightier "Rubber chicken" (play it and you will inevitably find out what I mean).

The Metal Slug series is the last defender of the 2D Jump´n´Shoot- For a reason, it is as funny as it is hard.
