Buying a New Computer for SC2

I am currently thinking of buying a new computer for SC2 and other games, i am on a budget of 300$ or less and i found these parts for around 290$

2.5 AMD Dual Core Processor
2 Gig DDR2 Ram
Invidia Geforce 7600 512mb

I just wanted to know if you guys think i could buy anything better then this within my budget and how you guys think it will run SC2, at what graphics setting, with how much lag, etc.

That's a damn good buy for $300. Make sure the parts are legit.

Also, I know it would put your over your budget, but I would steer away from AMD processors. :-\

Ive never had problems with AMD, and i found all these parts at microcenter already.

People usually have more performance issues with AMD processors than Intel. Your call, even though I'm an Intel person myself.

right now, amd's processors are making me more fearful of buying it, intel's and amd's processor instruction extensions are not being supported by the other. they chose not to support some of the things that the other company patiented. like say if intel were to win the performance competition and the developers steer to intel's side creating programs that only use their instructions, the people who buy amd processors will suffer.

Just recently i upgraded my graphics card again to one that is capable of running Call of Duty 4 and Crysis on full graphics.

I should have no trouble with Starcraft II :D

Just make it so that it can run most or all games currently out. Starcraft 2 shouldn't be too much of a leap in terms of Graphics

i've been hearing sc2 won't be that much more demanding than warcraft 3 when it comes to graphics. i kinda doubt that, but pretty much any computer you buy today will probably at least run sc2, even if not on the highest possible settings

AMD > Intel when it comes to GAMING. And i do Emphasize gaming. Intel Duallies are good as well. but that can be debatable. Intels are certainly better for OC'ing in my opinion. AMD's can just handle a bigger load than most intels

You're crazy. The life of the chip is almost twice as long with an Intel.

I only use AMD's, but the times i did OC, i had problems, Intels though, are good, but not for gaming. AMD, Its the way its gotta be :)

I hope my iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz can play it acceptably well!

I have a 2.0Ghz imac C2D as well. And it should be fine I think. I have the x1600 graphics card in it. And it can play spore at medium setting pretty much ok. Most of the time. And it can play most games well. So we both should be fine I think.

Ohh, yes! Do you play Spore on the Mac OS or Windows? I am playing it on medium as well, on Mac OS...

Well... haha that's a complicated subject.

Technically you can't utilize a dual core processor without utilizing a 64 bit operating system. Most OSs run on a 32 bit system but also offer a 64 bit version (XP x64, Vista x64).

So while you do get more processing power out of a dual core processor even on a 32 bit program (which undoubtedly StarCraft 2 will be) you're not going to utilize its full potential without a 64 bit version of the software.

So the answer is no. Very few programs run fully in 64 bit.
