View Full Version : Blizzard likes to play tricks

First of all, I'm new. So hey ;)

Anyway, Blizzard likes to mislead people (but never in a bad way), so they told everyone that no, the Xel'Naga will NOT be a playable race. But, they are still a major part of the story. What I'm wondering is what if we are lead to believe that you aren't ever allowed to play as the Xel'Naga, but actually, when you beat the final campaign, there is a fourth campaign when is the Xel'Naga. Maybe they won't let you be them in Battle.net either for like three months after the game is released to keep the secret...

Just a thought.

Hello and welcome to the forums! :)

Firstly, Blizzard doesn't really want to make a 4th playable race, because that would require them to focus on creating new units and buildings etc and how to best introduce the race into SC. The Lead Designer stated that he wanted to perfect the 3 races instead of adding another, and i can imagine they chose that path partly because all famous RTS sequels just adds on a new race and calls it a new game.
Second, the Xel'Naga isn't much of fighters, and beside that their numbers are dwindling. The Overmind nearly destroyed them as they tried to escape Zerus, so any kind of war would annihilate them completely.

Or maybe just a female horse grazing in the fields?

Good point. Maybe.

But does that mean that Nightdreams are like Daydreams except during nighttime? (ugh, my head hurts from all this thinking :( )

They ain't EA with that new ****ty C&C game where you can play the aliens when you're done beating them :'D

Haha, I don't know anything about horses. It was like nightmare, only in the day. I got it from a Damian Marley song with Nas (Road to Zion), and Nas mentions having "daymares" so I was like, that's sick lol. I was gonna do that or reMeks which is my b-boy name.

Well that is true red_dragon - but not everyone plays StarCraft like we all do, so they might want to keep things secret for a while. You guys are probably right though, and as SirBaron said, the Overmind destroyed most of them so they can't really fight or anything anymore haha. Oh well.

No they have said that they really don't want to add a fourth. Doing so would mean having to not only create a whole new sides worth of units and buildings, but they would have to then balance all those units against the other three as well. I think that it's good that they are breaking away from the norm, which is add another side or more just for the hell of it.

i wonder what the hybrid creeps would be capable of. obviously immune to psyonic effects. nautrally physically immortal and relentless? multiple attacks? natural matter-dissintegrating splash defences?

There may be some Xel'Naga in the campaign and they may have some units but I'm sure they wont be a playable race.

There won't be fourth race for multiplayer, not in SC2 anyway. But they 'may' be playable in campaign like Naga in wc3. Or just few heroes/units. But we won't know until the game comes out

There will be more of them than the Zerg and they'll be toughter than the Protoss ;)

paragon

I don't think there will be more than the zerg. Maybe fast as the zerg and tough as the protoss.

I'm thinking more about the Hybrids being as versatile as the zerg, quickly adapting to new things.

paragon
06-24-2007, 11:23 PM
i thought the terrans were the versatile ones.

coalescence
06-24-2007, 11:33 PM
Versatile in tactics, but I think that as a race the zerg are most versatile. Think of it; withouth weapons/vehicels a terran is just a terran, the zerg have many strains of zerg to furfill different roles and they keep evolving to be as efficient as possible.

paragon
06-24-2007, 11:49 PM
Thats true but the versatility of the terrans is in their ability to make weapons and stuff. if the zerg don't have something to steal the DNA from by infesting, they can't advance.

They can always tweak their old units so they become better.

paragon
06-24-2007, 11:55 PM
or expose them to vespene gas like Torrasque

coalescence
06-24-2007, 11:56 PM
Is that why its so big?

paragon
06-25-2007, 12:03 AM
yeah it was some crazy mutation

coalescence
06-25-2007, 12:04 AM
Yeah, but it could also be ressurected. How could vespene make something almost immortal?

paragon
06-25-2007, 12:08 AM
I dunno. Maybe the res was some crazy zerg voodoo trick.

coalescence
06-25-2007, 12:12 AM
Yeah, Zerg from New Orleans :P Explains why they are so damn weak against psychic storms.

paragon
06-25-2007, 12:27 AM
clearly. but they can still reanimate.

actually. They reanimated Kerrigan so why not Torrasque.

I can't remember that Kerrigan ever died...

I thought she died when she was left on the planet...
how about stukov?

coalescence
06-25-2007, 12:42 AM
Yeah, but I guess she was captured, not killed.

Stukov was in the book, books tend to get inconsistent, canon or not.

paragon

He was also in that bonus map by Blizzard.

Which bonus map?

paragon
06-25-2007, 05:12 PM
Resurrection IV
http://www.sclegacy.com/encyclopedia/starcraft_story.php#re_intro2

Stukov was reanimated by the zerg and then raynor, taldarin, and artanis change him back to human using some serum.

burkid

yeah that was the bonus level on starcraft 64

coalescence

I dont have a nin64, must be crappy playing starcraft on a console. I always thought it was a book only story.

well, i dont think theyll let u play as the xelnaga after the game is released, then let u play them after 3 months. it will be too much of an update

Meloku
07-06-2007, 02:55 AM
My bet is a new race in the expansion, when they can focus exclusively on developing and balancing it.

burkid
07-06-2007, 04:56 AM
my bet is that^ is a bad idea.

paragon
07-06-2007, 06:14 AM
i bet they never add a new playable race. Ever.

GuiMontag
07-06-2007, 06:32 AM
if they added a new race it would likely ruin the asymmetry of the game

paragon
07-06-2007, 06:41 AM
which is why they will never add another race.

Lemonparty
07-06-2007, 06:55 AM
if they do it'll be campaign-only, like the Nagas.

paragon
07-06-2007, 01:44 PM
or satyrs which I think were more of a full race than nagas were

burkid
07-06-2007, 03:29 PM
yeah but the sayters just used NE buildings that were corrupted.

paragon
07-06-2007, 03:50 PM
well the naga just used murloc "slaves"

burkid
07-06-2007, 03:51 PM
that they did.
