Well 10 years has passed since the original Starcraft, what Science Fiction references from the past 10 years (and even those from other years) would you like to see in Starcraft? Maybe some references from Futurama? Maybe Slurm? A competitor to Nuke Cola? ;)

Anything else you'd like to see?

NO Star Wars 1, 2 & 3 references please...

I'm predicting Matrix stuff, probably from the Protoss.....If they have a Vulture-like unit, it'll most likely reference podracing (Sorry coalescence). Obviously, there's gonna be Trekkie stuff. I wish they would have Serenity or Firefly quotes.

Raynor: I have a bad feeling about this.

Duran: POWER.. UNLIMITED POWER!!!

I second this motion. I hope there isn't trek stuff. Serenity and Firefly stuff would be cool. Those were funny.

Hoban 'Wash' Washburn: This landing is gonna get pretty interesting.
Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: Define "interesting".
Hoban 'Wash' Washburn: [deadpan] Oh God, oh God, we're all going to die?

Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: You do that, you'd best make peace with your dear and fluffy lord.

Jayne Cobb: We're gonna explode? I don't wanna explode!

Pitch Black, if I remember correctly, was quite similar in attitude to StarCraft.

The cargo ship pilot was female, like a Terran dropship pilot. Tychus Findlay could be inspired by the Richard B. Rid**** character. And the enemy force was elusive flesh eating aliens.

Basically, a film adaptation of a Terran vs. Zerg battle :)

Except that Pitch Black was originally based on Nightfall by Issac Asimov but changed drastically during its development.

I wasn't suggesting that Pitch Black was based on StarCraft, but that StarCraft II could contain references to Pitch Black - hence the Tychus Findlay comment.

I'd laugh if the Blizzard team made reference to Halo. I'm sure those guys play it in their spare time. Maybe someone named Master Chief will make an appearance ;)

Wouldn't surprise me if there was a master chief. Not an important character, just some random marine in a mission.
Also possible candidates: StarGate, Battlestar Galactica, Children of Men, Transformers, Donnie Darko, The Incredible, The Matrix, V for Vendetta, Serenity, Hauru no ugoku shiro, Paprika, Siworae (this is South Korean so I don't know anything about it but it probably will be in it somewhere), Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem.
(Taken from top 50 sci fi movies on IMDB. Only ones made after 1998)

I loved Children of Men so I would love a reference to that but I don't know how they'd do it. Maybe have a billboard with Clive Owens face on it.

If it's anything like WoW there are going to be a ton of references to movies, books, music, etc.

I'm betting a good $50 that there's at least ONE reference to 300 in there somewhere :good:

"A man walks down the street wearing that hat, you know he's not afraid of anything"

Would work well if someone has Stukov's hat.

Ha, I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow managed to make an HP reference. It would have to be pretty subtle though.

I'm guessing from the 'toss if it's in there.

Well, I meant a big ol' chef's hat looking thing like he had. I know it was supposed to be a naval admiral's hat, but in his avi, it looked HUGE. Like, Donald Trump HUGE

Looked like it was just sitting on top of his head instead of that he was actually wearing it.

Plus you've got evil stukov and regular stukov both with equally ridiculous hats

Well here's a good line of quotes that'll be good for single player:

Recalling the first spotting of the Protoss Mothership

Someone: "We tried to contact the fleet... no one heard – no one! W-we couldn't run!"
Jim Raynor: "Someone, what happened to your crew?"
Someone: "Oh, well, I had to send them down. I mean, we were dead – no power, our lasers useless. I stayed behind. The captain... last man aboard the ship; that's what you're supposed to do isn't it? And then it hit again, then the transporters went out. They were down there, I'm up here..."
Raynor: "What hit? What attacked you?"
Someone: "They say there's no devil, Jim... but there is – right out of hell, I saw it!"
Raynor: "Someone, where's your crew?"
Someone: "On the third planet."
Raynor: "There is no third planet."
Someone: (sobbing) "Don't you think I know that? There was, but not anymore! They called me, they begged me for help – one hundred of them! I couldn't... I-I couldn't..."

Can anyone guess where the reference comes from? 50 free minerals and maybe even a wooden duck for whoever can first guess it correctly! :)
