I was told that starcraft2 was late in coming out due to blizzard being sued by games workshop for similarities between the terran marine and the space marine race in warhammer40K. Is this genuine information???? If you have any info please post a reply.

I don't know if that's true or not, but it seems very unlikely.

Yes, that doesn't sound like how it happened.
I think they just got caught up with making World of warcraft so they put starcraft development aside. And then they thought "****, it's going to be 10 years soon, let's release it!" so they did.
But they kept it secret very well!!! :o
There are several factors contributing the late coming
- The game is still very popular, espeically in South Korea, and Blizzard is still making money from SC1
- Many of the staff that worked on SC1 left the company, they had difficulties finding new capable staff to work on SC2
- Blizzard vows to make every game "perfect"
- Starcraft 1 is already considered "perfect", hence it's hard to make SC2 even better. Blizzard doesn't want to dissapoint fans if they shall fail to make SC2 better.
- They were involved in the Warcraft series and did not have time for SC series

mc2 has it down. In the round table discussion, this question was asked, and that was pretty much their exact answer.
I did hear somewhere that Blizzard had originally wanted to make a Warhammer 40k game, but Games Workshop wouldn't let them, so they just went with a bunch of the basic ideas and made StarCraft. I don't think they were ever sued over it though.

Well Warcraft is pretty much a Warhammer ripoff as it is so no real suprise there. Besides, SC is weirdly similar to WH40k ... ;)

haha well... at least blizzard thought of bringing those "similar" models of warhammer and W40k to life to a pc game before they have ;D

mmmmm.... i dont know sounds kinda credible to me, I mean if u owned a big company and thought someone was trying to steal one of your more succesful models wouldn't you do something about it???? mc2 u seem to know what ur on about and given your standing in the group you might know who to ask are you or anybody else saying that this definatly didnt happen or are u just speculating?

games workshop couldnt have sued blizzard becuase the idea of an army of insects (zerg/tyranids) was around way way before either company existed, same goes for an army of advanced humans with bulky armour and starships(spacemarines/terran). Protoss(elder) are just elves in space (uber psychic powers and mystical technology, highly spiritual.

Exactly, none of them have creative copyrights on any of the concepts, only on the actual names of the factions. And Blizzard made a lot of complex backstory for all three of the races, from their beginnings to the present. I doubt that W40K has similar origins for their factions so their similarity in looks is all they've got.

I heard that to. I the Starcraft 1 engine was suppost to be a Warhammer 40k game. Terran marines were suppost to be space marines, but since it is an old game, you couldent tell, they then changed the units face to make it uncopy righted. I think protoss was also suppost to be Eldar, then zerg was just a race they added after they decided it would be Starcraft.

I've never actually played any W40K games. Are they worth trying before Sc2 comes out?

If you ask me War40k's Space Marines look a lot like Storm Troopers, but just a lot buffer.
And eh, War40k is an alright game IMO. It'd be worth checking out if you really like RTS'.

It's funny now that you bring it up. Warcraft is dead like Warhammer and Starcraft is dead like Warhammer 40k. They share the same kind of factions with simular people tyranids->zerg ,protoss->eldar, dark templars->dark eldar(not actually that close but they are sort of simular), terran->space marines. Then Warcraft has humans, elfs, orcs, undead, naga, which Warhammer all has cept instead of naga they have lizardmen.
Of course the simularities don't bother me because I just care about how fun the games are. Just interesting that they are quite simular. Both titles even share names hehe. StarCRAFT/WarCRAFT and WARHAMMER/WARHAMMER 40k.
Well just my pointless post... ;D

Simple, the game was late coming because they thought they would start continuing on warcraft and diablo, when they made warcraft 3 it was a MASSIVE, and i mean MASSIVE hit. So they said, "Hell, lets just make a really HUGE MMORPG all about warcraft and make it fun." But then they got too addicted by the money they recieve from this massive game.
Now, WoW has come and gotten a bit boring for some of us ( not me, a bit too expensive for me )
And they always are working on ideas and projects ALL the time. They might even be thinking about WarCraft 4 Now. ;)

Actually, the protoss remind me more of the Tau then of the Eldar, but Tau were only released in 2001 so they weren't ripped off. Maybe the Tau idea is ripped of the Protoss.
Well, my actual opion on warcraft/warhammer and starcraft/warhammer 40k is that its all common goods. 90% if the ideas in all games have been there for almost half a century to a century in a wide variety of fantasy/sci-fi books and movies.
Example; look at the similarities between lord of the rings (which is from the 50's if I am not mistaken) and warhammer/warcraft. Ok, orcs and trolls etc are really different, but its a start. Humans can't be really different. Wood/night elves and high elves are all in a way in lotr. Dwarfs are really similar in each story. Gnomes/hobbits anyone?

Protoss will own the Tau. I have never seen unit controled air units for Dawn of War. So Protoss will kill Tau badly with Carriers.

Don't forget that when the space marines first found the tau (and tried to cleanse their planet, but some mystic power stopped that) they were a race in the bronze ages and in like 400 years they developed themselves in a race with superior technologies. Don't count the tau out yet :)

I'm afraid tau would crush the Protoss they have far better fleets and technonlogy also they have a incredibaly fast evolution rate. tyriads would devour the zerg no contest and terran vs the Imperium of man the Imperium would win no question. alothough protoss and tau do look similiar the tau came out not that long ago. the eldar protoss comparision is the best the mothership is extremly similar to an eldar craft word

So true, as I said, it only took them a few hundred years to get from bronze age to this superiour technology. Maybe they can even have better technology than the necrons in like 1000 years.
And the idea of tyranids just horrifies me. After they conquered a world a mothership (?) comes and sucks a planet dry. Every lifeform, vegetation or mineral/ore just gets suck in. They even suck in their own armies to be recycled and maybe adapted in better evolved creatures... brrrrrr.
The new avators feels like those photo frames from the old old days, not very in line with the 26th century theme for SC2.
If you would like the avator to revert back to the previous style please post a request here:

actually i don't think they would even fight each other tau always asks if others wish to ally with them before they attack and I'm sure protoss would agree

I'm not sure, the protoss have a certain arrogance because they have an old race, while the tau society is extremely young. On the other hand, I think the way of thinking and enlightendment of the tau comes close to the protoss khala.
