Let's discuss Final Fantasy, a series of games that's been acknowledged as some of the best in gaming history. And yes, it includes all the side-games (Tactics/DoC etc etc) and the upcoming games (FFXIII - FFVersusXIII - FFVII: Crisis Core - those i know)
In particular, Final Fantasy VII, my personal favorite.
So, to start things up: How many of you have played this game (FF7), and mainly, how many of you liked/disliked it and what parts exactly did/didn't you like?
Personally, there's really three things with the game i enjoy.
1: Sepiroth (he got voted by some site as the Number 1 game villain - i agree (in fact, Kerrigan came 2nd - fancy that))
2: The Story (like the stories of it's predecessors and successors, the story of FF7 is intricate, dynamic and vivid)
3: The Buster-sword (who doesn't like 7 feet long swords, LOL?)

Hmm, I used to like those games when I was younger, but they've lost their charm somehow. Seriously, ATB is the lousiest thing ever. It's the characters that rock. I've played FF4, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, and indeed the 7 is the greatest. It's a bit more sinister than the others and the game mechanics work exceptionaly well. Mayde I should check out the XII also.

ff3/6 and ff9 are the games that rock. the games like ff8,ff10/-2, and ff12 are the games that have too much technology. ff7 did too, but it has the greatest storyline. the technology in the other ff's kill everything.
not only the technology, but the battle systems have gotten stupid also

I never could get the hang of FFVII's battle system, though Vincent is a mega-pimp. Personally, my fave is FFX. As I mentioned in another thread, that one was simply epic, or as my fave band says, it was totally empire. It had like, a bajillion plot twists, an amazing score, ranging from bluegrass, to opera, to heavy metal. The Sphere Grid is an amazing innovation. The cutscenes were gorgeous. My only complaint is the FFX-2 totally and completely failed in comparison.

yeah X-2 completely sucked. they build the whole thing up that you get to meet tidus again, then it ends up being some douche that wants to blow up the world.

they had a friggin yuna imposter in the first minute! Rikku was a *****! Paine was into bondage! Brother was a pervert! Yuna sings funny (aka in combat)!

My most favourite one is FF7 and then FF7 Dirge of Cerberus. And then maybe FFx2
From the 'numbered' ones I played:
I & II: DoS ver. First was good. It didn't have much story or anything but played fun. And 8-Bit Theatre RULES. As for second, I didn't really like the characters and stat raising system was a pain. When I got to the last boss I hardly could hurt him, and the girl who was supposed to be healer had highest STR Oo
IV: I hate Cecil. He's just so lame, I think his line "I didn't become Dark Knight to kill innocent people" or smg like that explains all. Kain on the other hand is one of my fav guys in all series. Hope he shows up in dissidia.
V: My first FF game, the job system is awesome (for cheap tactics esp ;p) and they did a really good job on translating it in GBA ver. Gilgamesh ftw! Best 'comic relief' vilian in series up to 9 (didn't play further)
VI: It's considered one of the best game in series, but I never really liked it that much. I prefer lighter V, with job system instead of ton of characters. Also Kefka is often said to be best vilian (he actually destroyed the world), but... come on, he's a clown...
VII: My favourite FF, great and one of the most F* up stories ever. Materia system was very good (also allowed cheap tactics like emerald in two-three rounds), though setting everything up was a pain sometimes. At least not as much as in Chrono Cross. Best character for me is Red XIII, with Vincent and Cloud close. And there's "One Winged Angel"...
VIII: Also very good but I didn't like the stroy as much as in 7 and it had annoying characters like Selphie or Irvine. Seifer was a psycho in a bad way, Squall's attitude was coll at first but, of course, he had to fall in love... There was too much technology (space station, magic was kinda 'artificial'), but you can't deny the awesomeness of Ragnarok. The Draw system sucked. At first I almost didn't draw anything and I couldn't beat some bosses, other time I drawn everything that appeared and it was way too easy.
IX: Overall very good one but some factors ruined it for me. Mostly half-animal characters and most of the party. Especially Zidane, I hate him. I was so relieved when I noticed that I don't have to take him for final battle. So what he was strongest? Get lost monkey! And as for final battle itself... (SPOILER) big dissapointment. I mean, that guy wasn't mentioned AT ALL during the game (I don't think it was even hinted but I may not remember) and all of sudden he appears and claims he pulled the strings all the time. Yeah, right... On the upside I liked skill-learning system and chocobo digging game. And there was Vivi. Another of my favourite FF characters.
I'm yet to play the PS2 titles when I get the console, which may be anywhere from few weeks to years :/

The only PS2 Final Fantasy worth playing is XII. In fact, VII was my favorite, until I played XII.

I thought it was, though I haven't found many that feel the same way. It's very different from the other FF's (namely the real-time interface and battle system), and a lot of hardcore fans didn't warm up to it.
I'll tell you, though, once you hunt beasts in real time, you'll wonder how you ever went without it. ;)

Yeah, a lot of people had issues with FF12. IMO, it's still an awesome game, the summons or whatever they're called in that one (I wanna say "espers") is simple breath-taking, graphically. My biggest gripe is that the makers can't get over their fetish for main characters of ambitious genders

ff-x was my favorite , nice storyline and not square ( like ff7 ) , i liked the one super trick where if you put on the "extra drive goes to exp" + "damage goes to drive" then u fight the cactaur king and have him do 10,000 needles on you for each time u get about 20 sphere levels so u get powerfull quick
i never really got to play ff7 because of its price mucho dinero $ $ $ , untill i dled it of the internet so i could play it, i FINALY got outside the city then i acedentaly dled a virus and had 2 reboot comp.
ff9 was preaty sweet i liked that a lot but it took forever on each battle .
ff8 was really dumb in my opinion it just seemed stupid ,
1 , 2 , & 3 i only got halfway thro with my emulater which also disapered after that virus .
ffx-2 WAS DUMB!!! so horrable lets not talk about it .
ffxii was kind of cool but not great .
but my favorite ff character was vivi ! ( look at my avatar ) i always related to him .

VI- Really awesome game, never finished it.
CC- Crappy game, but great graphics and sound (considered to be one of the most beautiful GCN games.)
Tactics: Advance- I still play it regularly. I am over 150 hours in, I have completed the main story, but the game just keeps coming. I like the premise that the actual player is the last one to accept the real world, making them the last one keeping the world from returning to normal.

Actually, they didn't. What they DID was to create a game with loads of open-ended questions and left the rest for the fans. You wouldn't believe how many speculations and theories there are about that game... fanmade.

i played final fantasy VII, VIII and IX only. but i know the others too. i wish i could play FFX right now.
the first final fantasy i played was ffVIII so i like it more than VII. i have'nt finish VII yet, im at the middle part of disc 2 when my ps got busted 3 years ago. im planning to download the pc version of ffVII and try to finish it.
i played some of the final fantasy series below VII but never really finish any of it.

I really wonder how many games they plan on squeezing into the franchise. Now that they're up in sixteen games (FFXIII, FF Versus XIII, FFVII: Crisis Core due release)
I can imagine it:
Year 2020: Final Fantasy XXXVII due release. :P Enix just keeps pumpin em out i suppose.

I have played ffx, ffx-2, ff tactics advance and playing ffxii right now. I think ffx was the best.
Ffx-2 was very bad. The mission system messed the hole thing, and I only completed 40% when I killed the final boss.
FFxii is good, but the new battle system is confusing. I'm missing the old battle system.

i'm not much of a fan of Final fantasy, the turn based type gameplay is just boring for me.

FFXII isn't turn based. Way more action oriented.

08-05-2007, 10:54 PM
did that have a game, or was it just the movie?
Fenix
08-05-2007, 10:55 PM
Just a movie. A mediocre movie, but utterly baffling with the Final Fantasy label.
Baffle is such an awesome word.
I really enjoyed FFX-2
ok the storyline is a bit cheesy and it's nothing compared to FFX or FFVII
but the gameplay.. wow..
1st: We got the job system.. that has to be the best concept in all final fantasies, they even made it better since you can swap job during combat.. making you able to have like 3 warriors at the same time.. or 3 white mage.. what I mean is that the possibilities are infinite.. and this is great.
2nd: There's the new game plus.. the game worth buying just for being able to play it twice and having low levels with jobs that you couldn't use enough in the game when first played it.
3rd: I love how they made it much harder to deal gg dmg.. unlike FFX
4th: All those side quests.. that's pretty sweet.. the alternate endings at the end (not the cinematics but.. the gameplay that implies in chapter 5)
5th: I liked that coin mini game.. it's actualy quite challenging when you are at chapter 5
now there are 2 other down points I didn't state..
Lack of new stuff.. This is FFX-2.. so it looks almost the same.. there are a few more places but.. well it's mostly the same environement with a lil bit more stuff.
and the Blitzball... OMG WHAT DID THEY DO TO THE BLITZBALL? Yes, that's pathetic.
overall, FFX-2 is far from being the worse final fantasy.
It's still beaten by FFIII, FFVII and FFX but I prefer FFX-2 to FFII, FFVIII and FFIX
Fenix
08-06-2007, 01:00 AM

@ fenix, its great in X, but in X-2, you have like 20 people on a team, you pick the formation or something, then it plays automatically.
one thing i loved about X and X-2 though, was the theater, where you can buy cinematics and watch them whenever. that needs to be in more games.

I loved FFVII soo much that i downloaded the compt ver 1 month ago and played it for the hell of it... brings back memories. And a question those who played DOC is it any good? The cutscenes seems good but some people say the gameplay sucks. And also is there anyone here who wants to play Crisis Core but they don't have a PSP?
*edit* also for FFVII who can deny the joy of catching and breeding Chocobos :P
SirBaron
08-16-2007, 08:06 PM
Honestly, the Choco-breeding was a bit annoying, but it was all good once that Golden fella hatched. Knights of the Round <3, was level 81 with Cloud when we went down into the crater, all it took was 2 Knights of the Round to drop him - even did so before Super Nova.
Anyways, i WANT to play Crisis Core, but i do NOT want to get a PSP only because of that. Besides, i feel done with the FF7 universe, now that i've so recently finished it and all... gonna wait for a rerun once i've completed SC2, FFVersusXIII and of course, FFXIII.

wait... is FF7 Crisis Core a remake of FF7?
because... that would almost convince me to b...eat my friend till he downloads it for his PSP.
I loved FF7 and i think its the greatest rpg... but now i'm so used to good graphics I can't handle the fact that Cloud has two boxes for hands. It'd be nice if they remade it with some changes. (I thought the armor selection sucked...)
SirBaron
08-16-2007, 10:08 PM
Nah, Crisis Core is the period of time before the Nibelheim Incident when Zack worked with Sephiroth in SOLDIER. Oh, and you get to play as Zack instead of Cloud, who's just an NPC this time i think. Aeris is in the game too.
My personal favorites:
FF Tactics
FF-X
FF-XI
FF-IX
Vagrant Story (<--- completely awesome)
I'm playing FF-XII right now but I'm not completely loving the control interface just yet. But overall, it's pretty fun so far.
I also liked Super Mario RPG a lot.
