View Full Version : New Terran Building

Here is a building that was in the IGN screenshots. It could possibly be a building that increases the sight range and/or a cheap detector with a long sight range because it seems somewhat radarish and is next to a missile turret in the picture.

it could also be somekind of technology research building, but if it were like a sentry building that would be cool, maybe it could have a nice sight range and replace the comsat as a stand alone building.

It could still be virtually anything since it doesn't look like anything we've seen yet. :) To me it looks more like a Missile Silo than anything.

kind of like a silo torned into an upwards comsat station?

Looks like a nuke silo that doesn't require an entire command center to build. I'm guessing that StarCraft II is going to have a large area of effect spell of death for each race - the nuke is the terran's mothership.
Let's face it, nukes were kind of rare in SC I - mostly because of the requirement of another CC and the loss of a valuable comsat spot. Stand alone silos might make nukes more prevalent, as well as make ghosts more useful against the Zerg.

Looks like a f-in mineral farming silo like the one in C&C 3 ick.
Could be a range modifier or a radar. Who knows.

I don't think it looks like a silo at all.

Na, id say it could be the new academy, but who knows? Maybe a stationary detector?

maybe a new comsat thing? It could be it, or possibly a nuclear silo.

I dont think it is a nuclear silo, silos are normally underground and barely expose the top bits. If it is an "observatory" with detectionskills and superior sight range. It would make sense to place them near siege tanks as spotters.
Although now that I look at it again it does look like the core of it is a missile of sorts.

I think its a long range scanner sort of thing

Looks like a mad wizard's tower with radar capability.

What if now terrans get intercontinental ballistic missiles too?
paragon
07-12-2007, 07:31 PM
they would be the nukes...
Ghost
07-12-2007, 07:37 PM
Yeah, that would be more probable but I dont like the idea of the nuke being exposed like that. Also, being albe to build nuke silos without the need of them being attacked to a CC seems a LITTLE overpowered.

maybe its an addon. Like the picture where the terran barracks has some addon...added onto it. Sooo maybe the building it was connected to moved. Like a stargate or something.

Thats a possibility.

i dont think it would be an add-on because its too big to be one.
paragon
07-12-2007, 08:32 PM
i mean intercontinental ballistic missiles would be the nukes that are already in starcraft.
I am quite sure that that is not a nuclear silo or any other silo.

The protoss have a new spire as well. I bet its an upgrade building. maybe for a new mechanic the terrans have :)
It could also be comsat or a scout tower (lame) or maybe its a new defensive structure like a tesla coil :o

Perhaps it is just a long range sight scout tower, perhaps with some sort of comstat ability. If this is the case, then perhaps the Dark Templar spires are also scout towers, and their unique ability could be psi/shield regeneration, and this could be a new building trend for each race.

whats with people and tesla coils? they are not even that cool. ooo electricity...

Paragon ur depressing.. Can u for once not put down somebodies idea or comment? I mean seriously like half your posts are just putting people down. Knock it off!

no, I can't, I really can't
Besides, you're only saying that because it's your idea I put down.

I actually find tesla coils and the ability to manipulate electricity quite cool, if you've seen a real tesla coil you may agree... however I don't think it's a good fit for starcraft. Terran love their bullets and boom-booms :P

its probably just a comsat, with a large los and detection range

I wasn't saying that just because you put down my comment. I was saying it because ive seen it about 200 times! Uve posted like 2000 times. But alot of it isnt constructive. (back on topic) This could be a control tower... it looks more like a tower now lol.

I hope it's a building similar to the Arcane Observatories in the first Human missions of Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne.

Paragon, don't put down other people's ideas (or, at least, don't spike them into the ground, set them down gently.) See? The uninterested third party confirms: it's mean.

If you look at the building closely, it's unmistakably a Terran Photon Cannon. I suppose it is tall because the Terrans haven't yet figured out how to build extendable Phase Disruptors.
If indeed it is the terran version of a photon cannon then the terran's would have 3 different defence buildings and this would be rather interesting to observe but we must not rule out the possibility of it being the terran version of the tallanator (my name for the giant protoss tower thing) which (from the recent e3 screens) would mean it is most likely some form of bunker power outlet which would possibly power secondary functions of the bunker and make its attack/defence stronger. But then again it could not?

Most likely it is not a defensive structure as it doesn't have any sort of cannon or weaponry on it. That being the case, and it being too small for a research building, it is most likely some sort of detector, although it doesn't necesarily need to be for cloaked units.
Another big possibility is that it is some kind of disrupter that messes up various unit attacks and moves. (Arbitor can't recall it's vicinity, nuke can't be targeted there) but if that's the case it most likely has around 150 H.P.

Zis is not Red Alert in Space! Oh, vait, zhe Soviets have already been zo space haven't zhey? ;)
Maybe it's a GAP Generator? ;)
Alternatively, it COULD be some sort of Psi Disruption tower thing (like marinepower said), which prevents spell casters from performing spells within it's range, and possibly disrupt the attacks of Zerg, Protoss and some Terran units...

lol It's not Red Alert in space. Oh wait... ^_^
Anyway based on location I am going to guess it's a long range detector or similar support strucure.

They're probably not Supply Depots (well IMO, if so then just a smaller version) I'd say their purpose as shown in the screenshots is to provide the Terran with a proper choke point blocker (i.e wall).

yeah I thought it looked a lot like a gap generator when i first saw it, but I'm hoping it isn't
that would be blatant idea recycling

It's very likely that they are supply depots that just happened to be used to used as a wall in that pic.
I personally like that they don't take up so much room and don't have those pointless fans.
FlyingTiger

So does anyone think that once you submerge a supply depot, you are temporarily taking away the amount of supply until you reemerge it?
Prolly not but I was wondering what other people think.

I so nailed it on the head with my first post, its a large scale standalone comsat station for detection....go me go me go. . . . . .

I'm glad theres a sensor dome instead so I don't have to build and devote my CCs to build comsat stations.
Nikzad
07-18-2007, 02:17 PM
yeah but they gotta up the cost of them now to compare to comsats
imagine how crazy it would have been if you didn't need CCs for comsats
Terran players would just have one corner of their base devoted to 12 comsats and be able to constantly reveal the map
FlyingTiger
07-18-2007, 02:35 PM
yea i would think they would up the cost of the sensor dome (rather than the comsat station costing 50 minerals) I'm thinking at least 200 minerals and maybe some gas too.
I posted this in another topic but I think since it is strategically placed in the screenshot in IGN, it'll prolly act as a comsat station, detector, and a building that increases the range of sight. So the minimum of 200 minerals is a justifiable cost.
