Quite the contrary GuiMontag, There are numerous good free anti-virus software solutions out there. Tweak here is a list of what I think are the top contenders:

- Avast! Home Edition
- AVG Anti-virus Free Edition
- Avira AntiVir Personal Edition
- ClamWin Anti-virus

yeah adware is legit, but it does suck up a lot of resources, like %^@#$(*&_ Norton

i dont know about any free ones. they pretty much all suck. but if you want a good one that CAN update 24/7 (i said can because i'm pretty sure you dont want to be updating it every single hour) use Kaspersky.

KASPERSKY FTW.

Now you have no basis to say that freeware alternatives suck, because you do not know about any of them. You would be amazed to see how effective they are and though some of them do take longer than a commercial version to update and generally offer little to no technical support,You can visit third party forums to ask around and most people will be glad to help. In some cases, freeware alternatives catch things that commercial products miss.

I use Norton as my primary defense and Avast as my second opinion.
