Tempest = Troop Transport Unit!

Hey i noticed this on the game spot interview page... mostly stuff we already knew but this struck me.


Other units include the tempest, a flying troop transport with an underside energy shield that protects against ground-to-air fire, but leaves the unit vulnerable to air-to-air attacks,

I couldn't find any threads on it yet so i signed up?


What do you rekon? just a miss quote? or will it actually be a transport?

I think there's a chance that it probably just means that it "transports" the Shurikens, since it's featured as a carrier-like unit with no actual attack of its own.

i think archlimit is right, troop production and transport now shuttle like transport.

I would find it hard to believe that with the introduction of the Phase Prism, Blizzard would give another unit such as the Tempest the ability to transport. As a fan of Protoss, however, I can't say that I would be upset by such a change ;D.

If that is a transport i will KILL MYSELF. :upset: that would be sad, one of my favorite protoss units was the carrier, i was sad at first when i learned they wouldnt have it in sc2 but with the tempest i told myself well thats not to bad. But if it is a transport then it shouldnt have the little shruiken thingy's. that means it wouldnt be cool.

It is possible that it is a very powerful troop transport, why else would they have an underside shield besides going over enemy base defense then unloading a pair of reavers and laying waste to the base. It is still much better than the shuttle, since it has maybe 130-300 more hp/shields

So are you saying they would replace the shuttle? I dont think so, i always liked it and it was very good alone. So i doubt they will replace it. Now with the Tempest that would be way to many transprots i think. 3!!!, they should keep 2, one tactical and another basic. Tempest will probably replace the carrier. sigh. :(

depends on if the nydus is a transport which we won't find out until much later or hoperfully blizzcon. Cause then zerg has 2 tranporters [overlord and nydus worm]. So we'll see. But i agree the tempest thing has to be a misquote.
Hmm to think of it any vehicle can be a transport but however that will not suited for gameplay [poor zerg lol]

hmm i really think he said it wrong. but who knows. they haven't gone too far into making it yet. they may have changed the phase prism's transport ability. but i dont think they will. i mean they've already showed it on the site. (not the tempest the phase prism) but then again the tempest isn't up yet. so...

The phase prism's the new transport. It was even in the video, I think. Plus, a tempest as a transport? That's like making a battlecruiser a transport or a guardian a transport.

yea definatly it means shurikens. if it was accually a transport, u could carry tempests and gols/turret/sprores/whatever would not be able to stop it from reaver drops.
