i originally wanted just to make a random map to test out stormed units under disruption web, then for some reason i started making a narrow 4vs4 map with insane ai comps but thought "hey i could actually make something nice for the map competition" so i spent an hour and a bit on this, polished it, gave it some simple characteristics and wallah! till i realised that i couldnt pre-make maps for the competition :( but i didnt wanna waste it so here you go people try out this map if you want and i hope you like it! feedback would be nice too

basic features of the map:
-shared bases north vs south
-must be played on ums to work properly
-mid-point contains two chokepoint-pathways
-horizontal line of nearly-identical map reflection
-added mass of critters in each main-base area for the lols
-16 expansions in total, each with a different combo of resource nodes
-50k minerals and gas blocks, but could be changed under recommendation
-non-rush map. both teams are boxed inside a wall. but plenty of land for decent ground battles
-starting location is rather lame lol. 18 mineral blocks and 3 gas blocks pp ;D i could edit if recommended
there are some features of the map that has strategical uses in specific ways. as well as many disadvantages of stuff. you might understand/discover them as you play along :P

You don't need truckloads of minerals to have a long game. -_- Game length is usually decided by relative player skill, map size, and map type.

lol but i love truckloads of minerals ^.^
however that's not what the low-min-count thing was about

lol there's not point in having a truck load of minerals. what would you do with them when the game ends? nothing. it'd just be a waste. like i was playing this game earlier. and it was 3v3 but 2 allys were pretty bad and had to build something in my base to stay alive and then one opponent left after that. and then one more person left after he realized i have mined his entrance like crazy. and all his rines died ( he massed rines...i dont know why. it's beyond me. ) and then it was me vs someone else. and tvp and i built like 20 wraithes and 2 nuke silo. it was hilarious and since he just kept sending his carrier/scout/arb combo with no obs. and then i decided to punish him for his fool hardiness for not building obs. so i nuked him like 5 times and then he just left. i have 8000 minerals and 12000 gas left. that was just dumb. and it wasnt even a money map. -.- so basically what i'm trying to say is. THERE'S NO POINT IN HAVING MAD MINERALS/GAS. just make do with what you have

improve your macro uchi!~ only mine as much as you can spend. i can put 30 workers on mins and occupy 6 vespenes on fastest and i would still only just receive a bit more than what i could spend. and no i dont just spend all my efforts building and sending them to commit suicide......
this map just has infinite resources, but very few expos so you'd probably need those infinite resources :D

No, I am not going to download this until I see a screenshot of how it looks.

It is simply a personal preference of mine, I will only download it if it seems playable and even though the description is tailored well, I would like to have a visual.

I am pretty sure Fastest is built to handle 50 workers. So that might be your problem. At any rate, it is not about making as many units as your little tapping fingers can handle, it is about building as many of the right units with the available resources. When you have infinite resources, you stop having to make good decisions, since the system flushes so quickly and with no penalty.

I make my maps with limited resources and many expansions. It makes people have to scout more to catch sneaky enemies.

Way cool, been doing a few maps lately. One question though, how do I upload a map, and where? Just here on this post?
UchihaItachi0129

probably you upload it in a post with a few screenshots. i'm the thread starter so i'm not 100% sure on that. you'll have to ask 10-Neon for the details

I was just about to start a similar thread. Since Starcraft 2 is coming out, I got back into the original as well as the map editor. I created an eight-mission campaign entitled Raynor's Revenge. It concerns events after Brood War from the perspective of Raynor's Raiders, and the missions progress from easiest to hardest. It even deals with Duran and the hybrids (but not very intensively). I am eager to try other people's maps, and would like feedback on my campaign/testing for appropriate difficulty or avoidance of bugs I missed.
So if anyone would like to try out my campaign, I can e-mail it to you or upload it here once we figure out how! And I would be thrilled to play other's maps too!

The legendary Ne Map Pack (http://rapidshare.com/files/44051975/Ne_Map_Pack_49.zip.html). 46 unique maps.
My largest map pack, split into two subsections: One for my good maps, one for my less good (but still pretty awesome) maps. 49 map files total, 46 maps total. Almost all of them are melee, and the few UMS maps are not very trigger heavy. I made most of my triggered maps a while ago and they have since been lost between disk reformats. I do have some of my oldest maps, recovered from a friend. If you ever catch me online, you can now impress me by challenging me on one of my own maps!
If you want to see some weird mineral setups, take a look at The Valley, Scantid's Eye, and Nine Line. Weird terrain... well, that's pretty much all of them. Take a look at the ultimate team turtle map: Frozen Battlements II, the ultimate undefendable map: Nova Platform, and the map with the weirdest theme ever: Star Wrench. Judge maps only by their names? Well you might want to avoid Ne Zee, War For Sale, and Bear Spine Bridges. This map pack also contains the single best-balanced (or at least, most fun) version of Mini Starcraft in existence. Unless you're looking for money maps, I've got something for everyone!

thanks for making the thread title so....errr....unique? :P
that's a lot of maps! nice details and all :O
even though most have strategical problems, we are sick of generic competitive maps right? :P
so i guess i like most of them. some of them seem nearly identical to some blizzard maps o.O
and some are just toooooooooooooooooo symmetrical :P
and lol@all fair series
all-in-all good job ;) guess it's worth a power-up lol

Notes:
- There are some disadvantages to both Protoss and Zerg players if they expect to expand early game, but this really depends upon their build order and whether they wish to dominate the map resource-wise.
- Three chokes.
- Easily accessible natural.
- High-yield resources above and below naturals, each mineral node contains 3,500 minerals.
- Map image does not completely show doodads and other bits.
Comments and criticism welcome~!

PowerkickasS: I actually made this thread myself, then merged it with yours, but I did it wrong and yours came out on top. I decided not to mess with it because it still got the point across.
I've found that the best way to eliminate complaints about a map being unfair is to make it unquestionably symmetrical. For some reason people will take it for granted that a Blizzard map is completely fair, but "just some player" is assumed to make unfair maps (and will go on to blame the map as they are beaten.) I make it hard for them to justify that with the hyper-symmetry. Also, for the most part, it just looks cool.
Neon go learn to merge posts u noob!
lol just kidding.. I actualy merged a post in the lounge and it took me 2 tries to get it corectly. you gotta click on "merge topics" while you are reading the one you wish to keep at top.
