Whaddaya think of the new DT design? I personally like the DT itself, but that double-kami he's holding for a weapon is not very convinsing.

hmm i liked the old one better but this one is ok,
with its "always cloaked" ability its not like we are going to see it very well anyways.
and the huge blade it used to have was tight

Armor doesnt really matter when your completely invisible xD
But I agree with you on the armor point, I liked the big ass blades D=

i personaly like the deathsythe idea, but it looks too bright. I dont like his apperiance though, too much armor and he look like a grunt from halo. DT are invisible so they dont need much armor, they are tipicly assasins to slay the enemy with the surprise. so lots of armor will slow their movement/agility down.

They need to ditch the scythe if you ask me and for some reason it seems like the one shown from the latest scans shows him with no cloak :-\

I love the sickle. But its overall design kinda reminds me of an Elite from Halo. SC stuff we've seen lately seems to remind me of Halo a lot for some reason.

They should bring back the old Warp Blades. I don't really not like the scythe, it's just that it doesn't seem to fit in the SC universe. I mean since when did SC have a grim reaper?
And yes, I agree with you Itsmyship, the DT looks too much like an Elite.

I personally like that design, but I want the classic DT one back aswell. I doubt it would be possible (unless they decide to do it in the expansion pack) but it would be neat to add t that armored DT in the expansion pack as a distinct unit (as Stalkers are to DTs and Immortals are to Zealots) and leave the classic one in the original game.

NOOOOOOOO, i loved the bad-ass blades. it's SO cool with you freeze them in mid attack. he's like frozen with his blade...coming down on you...to deliver...JUSTICE!!!!! :( i'll miss the warp blades.

The only thing I wonder will be how the new weapon will effect it's use. Can they attack two units at once now or something..?
Maybe they can spin and kill anything around them.

They need to go back to their cloth garb armor and warp blades... I'm really not feeling this one. Dark Templars were one of my 3 favorite units; if they stay with this garbage graphical design I'll be incredibly disappointed. I can't even pick out where its head is on the screenshot! I could live with the scythe if they toned it down a bit, took off the skull on it, but they really just need to go back to the cool cloth and cloak armor.

the new look of the darktemplar makes perfect sense from a story line perspective, before sc1 they had no form of industry or army, pretty much a bunch of lay abouts that didn't do much. Now suddenly they are expected to fight in large battles, so obviously they are going to kit themselves out with high tech armour.
also, the scythe will probably harness the same energy that their warp blade uses, so its just a new animation..

i agree with u that storywise makes sense, but they need to refurbish the looks, it's to bulkish and that scythe doesn't look fitting for a Dark Templar, Warp Blades need to come back, and especially that skull on top of the scythe looks like c***p

Do you want Starcraft 1 and a half or do you want Starcraft 2? I don't like the look too though.

It needs to ditch the scyth....and get a psi blade other than that is looks ok...I guess...

I like it better when they were virtually naked with just the psi-blade thing and the cloak, like the cape thing not... actually cloaked.
This design is odd, because they're a stealth unit why give them as much armor as a Zealot? Then again Story wise it kind of makes sense.

Make sure you report your concern to Blizzard directly.
Edit: The old Darky was way cooler.

cough...
I like it better when they were virtually naked
Well I do... Blizzard liked it also considering they put them in their 1337 CG cutscene.

no they might listen sicne there was alot of complaints about tanks and they now remodeling it, so they might even remodel DT if enough people complain..

I'll back y'all up on the ones who think the older DTs look better. I'm obviously in love with them...

I think most of us agree that they should re-model the Dark Templar and keep it closer to the original. (If you're not one of those people, well phooey on you >:( haha) Do you guys think the Dark Templar are going to receive any new spells or abilities? Although they were powerful on their own, I feel like they will likely gain something new. I mean, their dragoon versions of themselves can teleport and they're bulky as hell, these agile little guys should be able to do something like that too =)
DT should definetely get a remodel. They don't have the stealth feeling to them in SC2. I'm sure Blizzard would be looking into this. Hopefully, what we see at BlizzConn will be something that we would all be satisfied.
I agree with kehmdaddy that I think the DT would probably get some sort of ability. Maybe it might be a passive ability like how the Zealot has the charge ability. But something different. Maybe something like, if you attack your enemy from behind, you will deal bonus damage say like 10. That means, you would want to use your DT as effectively as possible, and trying to hit units from the back. Having that skill would also seperate the skilled players and your average players in terms of using the DT effectively during battle.

I'll like him if he wears a mask with a scarf on it...
I like the scythe....I wished they made it bigger...
XD what's with people criticizing the armour? I'd prefer to see them in armor than I would with them walking nearly in the nude... ( Like that picture of Zeratuhl )

People hate armor because it doesn't fit with the DT idea. DTs are assassins, and if they were carrying around that much armor people would hear them clunking around like idiots.

It just looks generaly too bulky...I'm sure if they just took off a little bit of the armor the model would look fine.
(or even if they made the armor thinner and round it off a bit)
JudicatorPrime
07-22-2007, 09:55 PM
They probably didn't want to do it because they couldn't make a decent model, SC was 2D, so at whatever angle you would always see the majority of the body covered by the cape... They're probably worried it'll look like crap now but... it still looks like crap.

If the dark templar has armour shouldnt it have as much hp and armour as a zealot, invisible zealots seems a little OP if they keep the dark templar with SC1 stats than what is the armour for. it cant be rationalized, bring back old dt. The zeratul artwork would be a good model just give him some underwear, or as a comprimise to those who like the new dt armoured underwear. the new scythe=stupid old blade=cool or if they had green blades like zeratul but that will make for some problems with new colored psi
