Looks like it got stronger, even with full upgrades it could never kill a marine in one shot in Starcraft 1. But I wonder if the splash damage remains.
I don't like the fact that they walk, or at least make a walking motion, they shouldn't!
On another note, looks like theres another type of terrain, a temple like thingy. Probably a non builder map like Starcrafts 1's science/explorer vessel or warcraft III's temple and cave.

I'd like to say I take back everything I said about the Twilight Archon... it is unbelievably awesome and the fact that it can be created by any merger of Templar is cool as well. It seems like it got a little bit of a graphical change, unless the screenshots have simply just not done it justice whatsoever. Too cool, I love it. And if it can cast psionic storm, that's just unreal.

God...this is the most excited for a unit i've had for the toss since Stalker :P Btw, i love the artwork...I could never figure out in my head how an Archon would look like. I'm gonna have so much fun with this unit!

man this unit give me the chills! it's looks so awesome. I kinda like the archon walking instead of hovering but that's my opinion of course ^_^
I'm thinking they won't do a psionic storm and that any combination of templars would give the same exact archon. So does this mean that the high and dark templar will cost the same? Maybe. So if you either have a lot of gas or a lot of minerals, you can still create a twilight archon if you are sort of lacking the other resource.
The Twlight Archon looks realy cool and there alot strouger too, great find man, O and i hope they still sound as cool as they did in SC1 they had the coolist sounds.

Man, I love the new Archons look. It just looks plain kick ass. I don't even know how to describe how awesome it is.
Oh yea, I love how it is walking now.
Archons walking basically means, "DON'T FUXK WITH ME!!!".
Totally awesome.

I think there should be a different one when the HT merges and DT merges. y would 2 different unites merging form the same unit at the end. also i think the attack should look more devastating. it just looks like it shoots out little lines.

The new archon model is nicer; however, the animations could be better. For one they shouldn't be walking because the hoevering they once had exudes dominance over the field. Plus when you are made of pure energy why walk anyway, right... I mean it makes no sense. Secondly their attack animation needs more variation, in one of the videos a blizzard rep once said that they made zerglings have several walk animations so they appear as fire ants would in an actual swarm. The same applies here, right now the archon's attack seems too artificial.

is it walking? i dont see feet.
if im not mistaken i saw another version of an archon walking with feet not floating like this one. i cant exactly remember where. and in the images in starcraft 2 they don't have feet. yah, i like the other with feet they look more robotic not like a floating giant genie.

I sort of prefer the floating archon a little more than than the golem-esque archon. Beyond that, everything above the feet looks beautiful.

The original archon walked as well, it was just far less visible. I truly think it's the best looking character in the game so far.

Thanks for posting. I hope it's a bit more powerful cuz I agree with Cody. In SC1 I hardly ever used Archons unless my base was being taken over and my high templars have run out of energy so archons just become a last resort.
They just weren't very practical. But it looks like their range got up a bit, and if they STILL have the psionic storm ability, then it'd totally be worth it. Let's hope.

Yeah, I'm not sure if Blizzard worded that bit about the Twilight Archon badly and just meant to call their main attack the "psionic storm" that they reference, but if the Twilight Archon can use the real psionic storm, that'll be great. Plus, I think these bad boys have gotten a good deal stronger since we last saw them. I mean, we saw them kill marines in one hit! I think they'll take a while to take down as well.

That's exactly what I'm thinking, Nikzad. The Twilight Archon looks like such a bad ass, and I'm sure he's simply going to wreak havoc upon opponents.
Despite the recent Terran chaos, I still find the Archons to be the coolest looking unit out of them all.
The way it attacks, to how it walks simply spells amazing. I'm one of the people that prefers the Archons walking. It really shows attitude for it.
I can't wait to learn more about the Archons, and see if they are going to be getting any abilities. Blizzard stated alot of the exisiting units are going to be revamped around. I wonder if the Archons is going to be one of them. I have a feeling that the Soul Hunters attack ability might actually turn up on the Archons.

Wow if the Soul Hunter ability ends up on the Archon... goodbye Zerg. I think that'll be overpowered. It already looks like the Archon is going to be able to rip apart everythingin its way. I think we may see another Dark Templar ground unit that picks up the Soul Hunter's ability. Hell, imagine if the Dark Templar itself picked up the ability and once it "leveled up" it basically pulled out some Dragon Ball Z speed and would just slash and move around its opponent at a blazing speed. So everytime it would do one slash normally, leveled up it would do the first slash, then disappear and end up behind the unit and slash again, and for the third upgrade, another slash.

I think it wasn't, because MC was probably the only thing that made you sacrifice DT's.... of course, you're not forced to now, but, you know, if they take it out it would be a major hole in the Protoss abilities and playing scheme... Of course, if it is taken out, they could always give it to the Star Relic, or another super-duper caster unit.. My guess is they won't take it out, and it will most-likely go to the Star Relic while the Twilight Archon would just be like a normal Archon.

Well blizzard has gotten rid of other abilities like lockdown and disruption field in order to change alot of things from SC1-2. Dont expect to use just about any of the same tactics from SC1 and that includes mind control.
Right now it just seems that the Twilight Archon is the same as the light archon from SC1 with mebe a little more power behind it. No powers for it have been announced at all.

Most likely, the Twilight Archon will be the normal SC1 Archon but with boosted shields, damage, and maybe a little more health. And I think Blizzard was messing around with it having psionic storm too, but I might be wrong.
P.S. where did it say that lockdown was taken out?
The ability of psionic storm is given back to the High Templar. But we need to remember that they are still trying to make/scrap/balance out various units and the abilities, so it's not finalised yet as to what units and what abilities will be in starcraft 2

If I remember correctly, it was one of those things where lockdown wasn't mentioned on that picture that compiled all the new Terran units...it said 2 NEW abilities, which doesn't necessarily mean that the old ones aren't there either (I mean seriously people, a ghost without cloak?) but people started running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
It was like someone whispered "No more lockdown," and then everyone started going "WHAT?!?! NO MORE LOCKDOWN?!?!? WHAAAAT?!?!?!" and it became gospel. But it hasn't been mentioned yet I don't think

Well the way it works is if Ghosts still have lockdown, they will have a total of 5 powers whcih is unprecidented in a unit.
Its been proven ghosts still have cloak as per game demos, I personally think that the "snipe" power will be passive. This leaves both call reinforcements and nuke as the other two powers leaving the normal 3 powers for the unit. Again there isn't any proof that ghosts dont have lockdown anymore, but evidence points to the contrary.

I think taking out Lockdown would be an alright decision. They shouldn't be dissuaded from making the gameplay work well just because people are afraid of change. I mean seriously, with all these crazy units, Lockdown isn't necessary. Still sexy but unnecessary. lol
I've got a very bad feeling about what form the Science Vessel will take though... I'm imagining large levels of radiation poisoning.

I actually thought one of the magazine leaks mentioned that the Ghosts would retain all of their SC1 powers and have the additional sniping and "one unnamed ability," which we later found out was the orbital drop to call in marines. This is SC2, so I don't see why one unit having 5 abilities would be that strange, especially since we don't know how sniping works, it could very well be a passive upgrade that just makes the Ghost tear apart living units.

I dont think the Archon will have any powers if it does i think it will be feedback as that makes the most sense for a unit composed of energy
The archon should still float and have smaller feet, I also dont like the dumb looking collar around its neck. there is too much detail visible on the archons armour the original one was dark and obscured through the energy field which made it seem thick and dense now it just looks like the archon is on fire

Well, going on units shown to us by bliz so far, has there been one with more then 3 abilities? Though I do agree that sniping will most likely be passive.

I agree sniping will probably be passive because micromanaging to kill lowly marines wouldnt be worth it
I dont think units will have too many abilities if they might save some abilities for expansion units

You've got to remember, Phantom. This is Starcraft 2, everything is going to be different. If you look at their user interface, they enlarged it and it is big enough for one unit to have 5 abilities plus some.

I agree its going to be a diffrent game, but I am also point out the fact that no other unit so far has had more then 3 powers and I have not seen reason to put that many powers in the hands of a single unit.
Which means I cant prove to you that they dont have 5 powers, however the evidence of the revealed units thus far points to the contrary.
