View Full Version : Reaper Bombs

With this ability that the reapers have reminded me of Crazy Ivan from Command and Conquer. If the bombs do splash damage then a strat that i used to do is put a bomb on one of my own lesser units and have him run up to an enemy and have them blow up with the timers up. If done right u could take out a large amount of forces with one guy.

any other strats in mind?

They should just bring back spider mines ::)

Well without knowing limitations placed on the reaper bombs, some strats might not work.

But sneaking the bomb in with a 2-3 group "feint" then having one back by thier probes always served me well. (considering the jetpacks this might be easier in SC2)

Aw man, I had just rushed on here to put this strategy up cause it popped in my head. lol I wasn't very impressed by the looks of the Cobra unit but since it fires while moving and probably moves swiftly, it would be the perfect vessel to attach Reaper bombs to. Just do Reapers & Cobras, attach bombs and drive them into the base until nothing moves. Kamikaze martini anyone?

Personally i'd not have bombs at all with Reapers. Some things with SC2 is starting to look way too much like WC3... like 100 abilities that need microing... and with a 200 food limit, it's gonna be unbearable (early heart-failure due stress, kind of).

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of stratagies that can be used that envolve brute force and good placement rather then 50 tons of microing.

Terran defensive structures being good point in all that.

Yeah i hope so. But it would be really cool, massing out Cobras, sticking TNT to them and then go like "SHINDE!!" by sending them into the enemy base and watch chaos and utter devastation ensue.

Not to rain on the parade either...but I think they might only be attachable to buildings >.>

So that means make a total barracks bomb rush!

Has it been confirmed that the supply is going to be at 200? If not then we can't assume that it is going to be the same as SC1 and could very well be similar to WC3 with a lower cap and penalties for higher caps. However if this isn't true then i prefer the extra bit of microing because thats what separates the great players from the good ones. Its not necessarily the one who has the greater brute force that wins but the one who implements the different strengths of each of the units in his arsenal that should come out on top. This is my opinion at least.

In regards to the ability of the reapers, STAR-CRAP i really like your idea and it'd be an interesting tactic if it could be utilized but from the posts of other people it seems that only buildings can have bombs attached. In that case however I agree with PHANTOMFF and that it would be great to be able to feint an attack on an exp and while they were busy dealing with ur frontal assault scale the cliff and attach a bunch of bombs to the CC. Or if possible feint an attack on a base and attach a few bombs to which ever building you like but i think that this would be more difficult since the main base would probably be more inlaidened with defensive structures.

Edit: I was just wondering how could a bomb be removed after being placed on a building and if it is possible to remove it at all. Also perhaps the bombs can be attacked to stationary units, I.E. siege tanks in siege mode which cannot move unless the go back to normal tank mode. Anyone with ideas/facts please post

It's not like the terrans to sacrafice their own men to kill some others.

The zerg could do that though.

@Peter.Hong

I presumed it'd be at 200, since the narrator in the gameplay vid claimed "SC2 is a game where large armies face large armies" which wasn't really the case in WC3. Nothing has been confirmed, i'm just speculating :)

i think that it will increase to 400 or 500 so that the large armies realy come out to play but thats just my oppinion cause of the larger units

SirBaron

Some systems wouldn't be able to handle 400-500 units per player all at once, i'm afraid... (like mine *gulp*)

PhantomFF

I seem to remember hearing somewhere that it would either be 200-250ish. I cant remember where I saw it though.

good point so maby 300 if were lucky otherwise it would be a conservative creation match but the system handles 400 to 500 units in long battles on battle.net or do u not go on that

In one of the Q&As (http://www.starcraft2forum.org/forums/index.php?topic=749.0):

2. What is the max unit count population for each faction?

Unit population count for each faction will be very similar to the original StarCraft.

So I'm leaning towards 200-250 as well.

Good catch on that. So looks like it will be 200-250 which I don't really mind. I'll just have to adapt from WC3 which is sort of hard for all you WC3 players.

blizzard has said that it is at 200 right now, and i really dont think it needs to go higher than that.

Terrans use murderers for marine fodder, dont see how that would be much diffrent :P

I believe it was said the bombs were only attachable to buildings. If they really take 30 seconds to explode, they don't seem like they'd be all that useful unless they were pretty hard to spot.

SirBaron

What i meant it can't handle 500 units per player. If there's 8 players on a map with 500 units each, that's 4000 units right there.

your right your right and i hope they don't go wc3 on us and lower mineral and gas yield as u get more units
