Take a look at the new Dark Templar concept art.
http://starcraftzone.com/gallery/ (http://starcraftzone.com/gallery/)

To me, it doesn't look like a Dark Templar at all. It looks like an infested Protoss. Perhaps, this is a clue that Blizzard is giving us that there will be indeed, some infested Protoss Units in the Zergs arsenal.

why does it have teeth?
or a mouth for that matter?

just found out this pic of... i dont know to be honest!! in starcraftzone.com with othe SC2 screen shots

http://www.gamereplays.org/community/uploads/post-14673-1185234437.jpg

now it could be:

a revamp of the dark templar (including his scyth weapon)
the hybird of zerg/dark templar that all of us has been dying to see!
just as hoax, but a damn good SC-art none the less

the news in battle.net is that its a D.T. with spoils of war...make out of it wat you will!

I already made a topic here
http://www.starcraft2forum.org/forums/index.php?topic=1356.0

Mod, can you merge these 2 threads please?

My thoughts are, I think it is an Infested Protoss. You can expect the Zergs in SC2 to rely heavily on infested things. I think it is going to be a big part of the new Zerg Mechanic.

It looks like the dark temp took the teeth from a hydra as a trophy and is wearing it on his face.

wait it kinda looks and sounds like a predator

It looks a bit weird. But for me it doesn't matter as long as they have a visible cloak in game like they did in SC1

Well after seeing this I can kind of appreciate the new model of the Dark Templar a little more... but it isn't the Dark Templar we've grown to know and love. He really does resemble a Predator. I actually think this could be a cool infantry unit to replace the Soul Hunter and be some sort of Dark Templar unit, but I would much prefer if the Dark Templar itself went back to its robes and warp blades. Hell it might even make sense that he got strong after each kill with this sort of model, as he could adorn himself with trophies after he killed each unit. His pride and glory would be bolstered and thus would make him more confident and powerful in battle. That would be truly awesome. They could even throw the name Soul Hunter on him and it would be acceptable. Headhunter would be alright, but then everyone will think of the Trolls from Warcraft :-\

well, the concept art looks nice, bad-ass even, but i rather prefer the old look , this just doesn't fit IMO, i mean first the scythe and now that jaw or smthing like a trophy c'mon wtf!!

Hmm, I didn't even think of the possibility of it being an infested Protoss... interesting. It does kind of have that look about it. Ych9, you really think infesting is going to be a big part of the Zerg? I never really considered it since the Infestation in Starcraft 1 was basically useless; it does make sense with the storyline and history of the Zerg, though. I don't know how they would implement it to make it a fair mechanic, it just seems like it would be too much of a bother unless they have some kind of unit that infests units instead of killing them. Wow, think of this... a cheap, tier 1 or 2 Zerg unit that's only ability would be to cocoon an opponent's unit. From there, it would either slowly become infested and break out as a new Zerg hybrid unit under the Zerg player's command, or would have to be brought by a drone back to the base before coming out of its shell. That'd be pretty damn cool.

there should definately be some form of protoss/zerg, because the whole story of sc1 was that the overmind wanted to infest the protoss

Its good to see that the DT have a different physical appearance to the normal templar, I wonder if the teath are actually for a mouth, or its just for aesthetics.

it looks cool but doesnt fit what a dark templar should be i dont like the big thing behind its head that looks like a hunchback that resembles the colossus body and the stalker and is around the archons neck i dont like this teardrop shape theyre incorperating into many protoss units that wasnt on any units in SC1
though i prefer the original i could live with this style dark templar i like it more since ive seen the concept art the one in the magazine article looked like a covenant elite

Ackbar, you can have these, you need them more than I do: ..... ... ... . . ..... . .. . Hope they are enough.

Anyway, I will miss the tuareg DT. Even Raszagal was sort of an arab lady.

The teeth and the "hump" on it back remind me alot of a hydralisk, but his armor and the green orbs on the armor just dont scream zerg to me. So maybe a new protoss hero/unit?

And he dose resemble a Predator :good:

Major Willy
07-26-2007, 11:12 PM
I believe the mouth is part of his armour because if you look on his pauldrons there are tiny skulls.

burkid
07-26-2007, 11:23 PM
what, like a hydralisk jaw he put on his face for armor/trophy?

Major Willy
07-26-2007, 11:25 PM
Could be. His armour looks more like stone though... so a big WTF going to Blizzard's direction.

burkid
07-26-2007, 11:26 PM
well we really cant be sure that blizzard made it, its not signed, so it could be a fans.

i second the WTF.

DontHate
07-27-2007, 05:19 AM
his skin looks very dry. It could be an infested dark templar, but i think it's just wartorn zeratul or some other dark templar.

kehmdaddy
07-27-2007, 05:33 AM
I highly doubt it's Zeratul, in any form. It's gotta be a trophy hunting Dark Templar who took some animal's jaws (looks like a hydralisk), and threw them on his armor. If not, it's an infested Protoss. It's armor looks kind of carapace-y, and the crack on it's helmet kind of leads me to think it's an infested Protoss. We shall see.
-edit-
200th post. Hesz!

Deadpool
07-27-2007, 06:23 AM
ya it does look like an infested protoss which is somethin im hopin for in SC2 and gratz on ur 200th post kehmdaddy

*Edit*Maybe the picture is a picture of a protoss hero thats either gonna be in the story or just a hero that gonna be playable in multiplayer also i think your idea on the first page about a unit that cocuns the enemy then brings it bak to the base and then it would come out is an aweasome idea

Deadpool
07-27-2007, 06:43 AM
i just had a thought wat if there was a unit that after it killed an enemy it would get like its genatic code or somethin then it would take thatt back to any of the zerg hatcheries or any of its upgrades then u could create a mutated or infested version of that unit (this would work for EVERY unit of course) for example like a infested marine instead of being a sucidal unit it should have an infested rifle (the zerg really could use more ground non-mele unit) sorry this dousnt really have to do anything w/ this topic but i had to get this idea out :)

Major Willy
07-27-2007, 08:39 AM
You could've started a new topic in the Zerg Units and Structures area.

I'm expecting a few Protoss fans with torches and pitchforks right now.

I can see why you would think that it's an infested Protoss. I thought that for a bit....But I noticed a few things.

One. No slime. Every infested thingie has slime/goo/drool.
Two. It's hand is regular. Infested things always have spikes or crap.
Three. It has a weapon still. No Zerg has a weapon aside from it's body and mind.
Four. The eyes. I have no facts here, but it just doesn't look like infested eyes to me.

GuiMontag

well considering blizzard released it as concept art for the DT and not an infested DT, but you never know

its wearing the zerg skeletons as a trophy...

JudicatorPrime
07-29-2007, 01:31 AM
If it was infested, wouldn't it just drop the weapon and go jihad style?

Also considering its labelled Dark Templar CONCEPT and resembles already the DT we've seen I assume its a DT.

I agree with whoever said it took hydra bones as a trophy, look at its shoulders and legs, and the jaws look quiete disconnected from its face

lol.

anyway the artwork look of the DT is ok with me. its the new dark templar, looks stronger than the original.looks scarier and bad ass too (predator like) and if they take off their cloaks, you will be like OMG! WTF?! spare me great one... i love it!

It looks like the dark temp took the teeth from a hydra as a trophy and is wearing it on his face.

wait it kinda looks and sounds like a predator

I do agree with there
I also thought it was a trophy that the dark templar was wearing from a hydralisk
but it does look like a zerg/protoss hybrid and for me it makes sounds clear that he is wearing some kind of trophy

JudicatorPrime
07-30-2007, 04:57 PM
Well I don't see any sign of infestation... Just a battle-hardened DT with an assload of bones for armor.

TerranTemplar
07-30-2007, 04:59 PM
He looks like a DT who had a bad day in the warcraft wardrobe if you ask me ><

But the idea of an infested protoss does hold some weight in my books. The headpiece thing is chipped and damaged, certainly not becoming of a protoss who love order and structure. Also, the forehead area is just bone and cracked in places. Lastly his armor is made out of bones and spikes, something that the zerg are in great supply of :P

But, seeing as this is a Dark Templar the adornment idea could also have some sense due to thier roguish ways. Although I've never heard of them doing that before. Might just be me tho.

DontHate
07-30-2007, 05:07 PM
well the dark templar were more tribal and such, so i guess that expains the spikes and bones. The zerg dont' really use bones to decorate themselves anyways. If it was infested it should have like spikes growing out of it's back. if it was infested it should have more things mutating not adding more things such as different armor or whatnot.

07-30-2007, 05:09 PM
that's the sexiest thing i've ever seen! he's so slick! looks revamped and hybrid style, but too good to be true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

EDIT!: i am sure that's a hybrid. look at his face, the teeth coming out of the skin, and look at the skulls all over his armor

JudicatorPrime
07-30-2007, 05:16 PM
The Teeth aren't coming out, he's just adorned himself in Zerg bones...

SirBaron
07-30-2007, 05:36 PM
Well, considering the fact that they were pretty much on the run for some thousand years or so, i don't think the original DT's had any chance to develop strong armor like Zealots, for example. Heck, SC1 and Brood War didn't last long enough for the Protoss to develop any new tech, they only used toys that had already been in existence for some time (corsair and DA).

Now that 4-10 years has passed, surely the Protoss would have enfitted them with some armor - i mean, cloaking works with armor (even if DT's are a bit assassin-ish) and it's not like them making armorish noises on the battlefield under the sound of artillery is going to make a big difference...

hillzagold
08-03-2007, 12:36 AM
i thought that was some DT warlord when i saw it. some hero unit.

i dont see how you could think that's an infested DT? the infested terrans had a crapload of a tentacles growing out of it, so why not an infested DT?

PancakeChef
08-03-2007, 01:00 AM
He doesn't look infested at all to me, never crossed my mind until now. That is just armor and ornaments he is wearing. Blizzard basically said as much as well so I think we can count out that its a "infested" Dark Templar.

Indigent
08-03-2007, 01:30 AM
I don't think it's infested. But yeah, it does look like the predetor. What they need to do with the dark templar is get rid of the sythe and the wierd armor looking thing. Looks heavy, doesn't give the right protoss vibe. Hope they still have the whole super high damage thing.

BaneOfHumanity

Dont like the new one...they need to keep it like it was in SC1...

Broken_Heart
08-03-2007, 11:30 PM
That's a cool unit. I hope that's not a normal dark templar. That thing should be a hero. I think a normal dark templar should look like zeratul or something like this:

I like the old dark templar too. Ninjatise the new dark tempar and make him look more myserious. Then make his armor like robes. Then I can be happy and pretty sure everyone else will too.

hillzagold
08-05-2007, 12:40 AM
i like the new templar as is, he has that whole 'dont fck with me' vibe. i could totally imagine him in a 1v1 fight with an ultralisk. screw archons.

string_me_along
08-06-2007, 07:39 AM
@ElizarSampaga
Kinda. It's really just the regular archon with feedback. It's call the twilight archon. Apparently no mind control, so you will not be able to mind control that SCV or Drone and play 2 races at once with 400/600 cap. And rule everything. No, no. Not possible anymore. Why? Because it was too awesome.

But yeah. Merged the two into the Twilight Archon which is the blue archon with feedfack.

If you look at this picture you can see what looks to be some Dark Archon concept Art near the Twilight. So it's possible it might come back. They really have made it clear that and I quote "It aint finished till the game ships" so the Dark Templar look might change and the DA might make a comeback who knows.

Actually, I think that there will be an expansion set, and on it, the two main archons will return, modified a bit, and this archon will be left for the High Templar + Dark templar mergings. That's what I believe. Afterall, the first one had an expansion set, why not the second?

StarFyre
08-07-2007, 04:19 AM
having mind control to take over and build other armies IS NOT OVERPOWERED. I remember blizzard saying years ago, "if anyone has been able to build a full protoss army AND a full zerg and terran army and attack all at once against you, guess what? you've already lost the game LONG prior"

it's true...

just like the black hole for the mothership, etc..it's something that could be balanced quite easily if they really wanted too. It probably didn't fit into their style of tournament play, instead of doing more innovative or cool things for fun sake.

It'd be funny if you could mind controll a spider mine in the middle of a large area and make it explode with all the other spider mines (Spider mines are never alone...).
*In the morning you wake up and do your buisness. You go to this website and Q&A link is up.
You carefully read what it says.
Q: Can people in the Starcraft comunity cope with the loss of zerglings?
A: Yes, the new spider mine will... -Your head blows up-*
