I recently bought this and finished Easy yesterday and I'm going fairly well on Medium (curse you Blue button) but I'm concerned about when I'm going to use Orange.
I was surprised when I could play with the controller. It doesn't feel as fun but I'm better with it than the guitar.

What's everyone else's take on the game?

I beat it on Expert, I have the first one as well. Planning on getting Rock the 80's and Legends of Rock. but after those, Neversoft takes over (The people that made the Tony Hawk games) so they'll likely make the new Guitar Hero's full of crappy punk no one cares about. GG.

The Orange takes a little bit of getting used to but eventually it will feel natural. I think it's easier to simply switch your hand position when needed so that your first finger is on Red and your pinky is on the Dreaded Orange, because Orange is often followed by Blue and Yellow and so you can press those with your "stronger fingers". This might seem obvious, though.

I'm a Guitar Hero veteran and I just recently played GH with two of my friends and it just felt crazy that they had difficulties with medium, when I could easily pull those off 100%. It's really hard at first but it's great that you always feel that you are better at it than yesterday. I noticed that also my friends play better with the normal controller (I have only one guitar-controller :-\).

And Major Willy, if you like the GH2 I highly recommend the original GH too, because it has much better songs. Even the indie stuff rocks on that game.

I'm also gonna pre-order the new expansion set today (comes out tomorrow). I'll tell you how I like it.

Finished medium difficulty. I was kind of mad at myself because the batch of songs before Stonehenge I was getting 70's and 80's. I shrugged it off got the last 4 and Freebird done. The ending made no sense but I chuckled.

Now I'm going through easy difficulty as the Grim Ripper for 5 stars on everything to get the guitar and then I'll try and do the same on Medium.

The new game is the 80's one right? Sounds meh to me but I may try it.

Yup, that's the one. I wish it had more famous songs, but oh well. Holy diver rocks anyways.

The Ripper looks awful in GH2. Too bad I didn't find a screenshot of the original Grimmy.

The Ripper is fun to use but I was thinking "Damn! I just bought the Coffin guitar I unlocked, it's going to look sweet on this guy." and then I did only to find out you can only use his Scythe guitar.
$2000 that could've been used on the Fish.

If you are going to perfect the game the money doesn't really matter. The only suiting guitar for the Ripper would be a candy swirl explorer. ;D

I can't remember what it's called, but the "eyeball guitar" (the one you unlock for 5-starring all songs on hard) is pretty cool, but unfortunately I can't afford it. Spent all my money on songs, guitars, finishes, and whatnot.

Also, has anyone beaten Jordan on Expert? I've 5 starred Free Bird on Expert and I can't even finish Jordan. Blasted Buckethead and his...hands of doom. XP

My bro's like a pro. He can get like 85% Jordan Expert. He idolizes Buckethead now. It sucks. For major shreddage, they need to put in Eruption by Van Halen. THAT'S a guitar solo.

I myself am a veteran, though not the best. I have both of them, 1&2. I can mostly get four or five stars on Hard, and play earlier songs on Expert. Course, my fave is playing the bass on multiplayer (Push Push Lady Lightning FTW!!)

GHIII is gonna rule. I have a blog on MySpace with a complete set list (Minus the indie....Crossing fingers for Assassins or King of Everything by Anarchy Club) and pics of the controllers.

That's almost word for word what I said when discussing potential songs for GHIII not too long ago. That and Hellrider by Judas Priest would make some awesome (albeit challenging) final tier tracks.

Yeah, well, Guitar Hero's nothing, and I mean nothing compared to a real guitar. It took you an hour to get down Free Bird on Guitar Hero, it would take you weeks to get it down on a real guitar.

Heh, more than that.

I personally do play a guitar (Squier-Fender Stratocaster), but it's still fun to play a game devoted to my favorite instrument. It's actually insane how close to the real thing it is (minus the fact that it has only five frets and strings are nonexistent), and some of the covers-not all, mind you-are surprisingly good.

Although, I am getting a little sick of people who constantly brag about being able to %100 really hard songs on expert (something I don't care to put enough time into the game to accomplish). My response to that is usually along the lines of:

"Oh, really? One sec..." *Brings out his guitar* "Ok, let's see it on the real thing."

Ah, the old "real guitar" vs GH guitar issue.

I don't hold hate for real guitar players and I hope they don't hate me for playing it.
If anything, I have more respect for them now. If pressing a few buttons and flicking a switch fast is hard, I'm awed by those that can do it with strings.

And I swear I saw Judy Nails in a GH3 screenshot.

I don't think guitar hero and real guitar have much in common. Seriously, with real guitar the toughest thing to master is the right hand technique. In guitar hero they give you just one button which in general is easier to use than just one string. Also you don't have to worry about muting the strings you don't use, as you would have to especially with high levels of gain. Not to mention bending, harmonics and such.

I fully understand real guitarists that are annoyed with people that have played guitar hero like two years and claim to be rock gods. Have they ever got sore fingertips or spilled beer inside their Mesa Boogie? Nope, but I think it's just fair that Red Octane has given the less musically talented people a way to enjoy classical rock tunes with a nice guitar simulation. Everything's cool as long as they realize that it is a game.

Scarecrow, that last paragraph pretty much sums up how most guitarists I know feel about it (myself included). Bragging to a guitarist about Guitar Hero is like bragging to a professional racecar driver about Need for Speed, no?

Anyhow...Does anybody other than me feel that the downloadable track packs (360-only) are a load of bull? 500 points-$6.25-for three songs, and the only real advantage (for those who own a PS2, anyway) here is the ability to play songs from GH1 on the updated GH2 format (hammer-ons/pull-offs are more fluid and realistic, as well as better timing).

I'm glad we agree.

I thought you could download lot's of cool stuff, like trooper. Or have I been fooled?

Best news I've heard :good:

Character cast

Still according to Flores, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock' will feature a cast of thirteen characters, five of them will be unlockables. Out of the eight starting characters, one new addition is Midori, a purple-haired Japanese girl with a J-Pop look. The eight returning characters are Axel Steel, Casey Lynch, Grim Ripper, Izzy Sparks, Judy Nails, Johnny Napalm, Lars Ümlaüt and Xavier Stone. Slash will also appear in this game as an unlockable character.

Oh, and Scarecrow. In regards to your sig, music is essential.

Scarecrow

To me music is very important, but when you really think about it, is anything really essential? Maybe I just don't see it yet.

But anyways, it's just a quote from Clive Barker's novel, not my own deepest thoughts.

Trooper, as well as Hush, Dead, Possum Kingdom and a few others, comes with the 360 version as an added bonus. The downloadable songs are songs from the original GH (such as Smoke on the Water, Bark at the Moon, Killer Queen, etc.) that were remade and packaged for GHII. It's a cool idea, don't get me wrong, but it's a tad expensive.

Too many? You use two hands just like on any other controller, and hit even less than on an Xbox or PS2 controller.

I don't play real guitar because I've never been interested in more than just listening to music.

I'm a big fan of classical metal. Iron Maiden, Metallica, Deep Purple, that sort of stuff.
