View Full Version : Campaign missions allied with the Computer plus extensive campaigns.

When I played the last level of the protoss campaign on the original SC I wished that the terrans would have been your allies instead of controled by you. I know this doesnt sound good because the AI wasn't ... isnt still really good. But then I played some custom campaigns (Black Dream) and I came to the conclusion that it can be really fun to play with computers agains other computers (with story elements, not just TvB).
Then WC3 had a couple of missions in which the player would play allied with a computer. The last mission of the orc campaign was pretty cool.
I like the Idea of playing in the same team with a computer, as long as I play other computers and there is constant chatter and dialog between the characters. And of course, as long as my gameplay is still important.
Maybe If the heroes of the allied computer belonged to the player (so they wouldnt get wasted) it would be nice to play one or two large battles allied with the PC. Would give an epic feel to it.
I also think campaigns should be a bit longer in SC2. A couple of extra missions would add a LOT of replay value to them. Like 20 missions instead of 15. That would make the story much cooler and complex too.
Agree? Disagree?

oh yes love the idea. especially if the comp knew how to play and you knew what they were going to do, and yet at the same time still have a rather difficult odds against you
would you like a  or ?

Its a good idea... If the AI is good enough in SC2 that is...
If they had AI to act on their own, but you still could controll them... if there was an option to swich or something, that would be so cool.

i would really like to have missions with a computer ally, because i remember back to playing WC3, on the last level of reign of chaos, having my base, thralls base, and jainas base guarding the tree. it was nice to just have to put some protecters and a decent size army at the front of their base and their casters would support me without me needing to micro the spells myself. Archimond still made it to my base and was tearing through it when i won, but 45 minutes is a long time to last, and that was probably my favorite mission in the game.
to sum it all up, comp allies would be amazing.

 given ;)
well starcraft ai was pretty cool. you guys must admit that =P compared to some ais in other games.
and slightly OT; there should definitely be a difficulty setting for the ais in sc2. and ais get more bonuses (resources, faster build times, mining rates etc) rather than jsut skill increase as well.
it's funny how it's really difficult killing an insane ai in dawn of war (except maybe eldar and imperial guards because they were a bit bugged). they get about doubled resources and man it makes so much difference
P.S: dont worry about getting down to -20. it wont happen
btw.....i hope gm_k didnt get banned did he....?

Man, Blizzard should check this idea up! How cool wouldn't it be playing Protoss in SC2 campaigns with Raynor's Raiders as an ally? xD
I would  2x if i could, oh well, you'll get another one in 72 hrs.

In WC3, you could really coop well with a computer. He would fight with you, do smart moves, and even minimap-ping so you knew what he was doing, if he scouted the enemy and such. Really awesome.
As for this thread in whole - LOVE the idea. I would've posted this thread myself if the thought had struck me.

I agree with both your points. Playing with a computer ally would be fun and the Starcraft 2 campaigns should be 15 missions apiece instead of 10 like in the original.
However, some missions (like the final Protoss where you kill the Overmind) it is more appropriate to command both bases. Being more than one race also gives an epic feel and is especially cool for the last mission in the game.

Yeah, comps make great allies, better than most noobs. I wonder what the new AI system will be like. SC's AI was and still is great and it's been 10 years. It'll be interesting to see what Blizzard'll manage to cook up.

Yeah, that's why it's so replayable, it's hard as hell. You should try it on PC, tho, it's probably easy, even in legendary.

A.Fyi Halo on computer is just as hard on legendary on the console except the keys would be best customized for the user unless you want it to be Legendary : Levels of a 1,000 Deaths.
B.Getting this back on topic, ;D would it be even better if for these missions you could play either side in a co-op on B.net? This would allow for an interesting measure of skill against an insane computer and give your mission a more realistic view plus it gets lonely in the campaign. :bigcry: Although, it could be played with a computer single player style. Still Implementing that would be awesome imo. Just a thought.

brings up another issue:
all battles are suppose be remakes of huge armies/establishments on both sides in every campaign. should it be about time that instead of players starting with tiny bases compared to the computer, allow both players to begin nearly evenly and have the computers build REALLY fast and play REAL tough?

Well if you give tyhe computer the time, and the right AI (hard) it will kick your ass. Not mine cos i rock! Im kidding. But comps can be tough..

Of course comps are tough, they have better micro and macro than 90% of us.

Um, no. While a computer might be better at maybe chess, there's no way a skilled player would get beaten by a computer in a RTS such as Starcraft or Warcraft, no matter how insanely smart they make the computer.

I was talking about the number of actions they could do at once, not their actual skill.

yeah comps can build units, start an expo, attack your base, and cast spells simotaneously.
