If you ever get the chance talk to a developer tell him to leave the soul hunter, tempest and such units aviable in the map editor. (Even after they have been removed). This way there will be more units for custom maps and fan campaigns.

That is a cool idea for like campaign like a custom chapter called 'Dark Carriers VS Carriers' which would be cool and you will be able to see a soul hunter as a 'professor' (re named by a fan) in one a custom game cool idea Lemmy

Yup. Besides those 2 units were dark templar. COuld surely allow for a dark templar campaign made by fans.

Very good idea.. I'm pretty sure this is going to be done..

I actually asked the developers about this in one of the panels. While they never said that unused units were surely going in, they did say that they had no reason not to include them in the editor.

Cool. I cant wait to take SC1 into the SC2 engine.

lichking: yes, that was me. I don't think they interpreted the tilesets question they way I intended, and it only occurred to me after I stepped down. They said that you could use textures from other tilesets, but tilesets are more than textures.... I haven't used the WC3 editor, so I am not sure how accurate the question/response was.

Oh, and were my questions totally incoherent or something? It really bothered me that I had to restate both of my questions, when they only did that to other people when they had several or long questions....

the new map editor is going to be very powerful, i'm sure you can even make your own models with it.

I totally agree, SC2 is somewhat a very deep game if you know what i mean

that was you in the video asking the two questions 10-neon? they were pretty vague in their responses.

I'm sure they'll include them in the editor, but they won't be offered as downloads later on. That would mean that you would have to go download the units in order to play those maps. Either that or the map download in the game would take weeks! ;)

I am a big believer of scrapping the old for the new. I would love never to see some of my most loved units if the game is that.... UBER!

For instance, Dragoons. DEAD - GONE - BYE.

I will not say I do not love the goons; however, if I want to play goons why play Starcraft 2 - I can play Starcraft 1.

DontHate
08-11-2007, 04:23 AM
well, u can always make maps in the map editor with some goons, and any of ur scrapped sc1 units.

speeking of remaking goons, don't you all realise that the beuwty of starcraft 1 was the fact that people had to inmagin what the units looked like up close because of the graphics, modern RTS's are taking that away and I think it would be terrible to put starcraft 1 units in starcraft 2 because then...well starcraft would never be the same for me, i'm not shure about others though.
But starcraft 2 is a sequel and does need some old units so I can execpt that, but the biggest thing that I'm going to miss is: WHAT THE HELL DOES A HYDRALISK LOOK LIKE WITH ITS CHEST CAVITIE'S OPEN AND SHOOTING SPINES!

They said you can use the old StarCraft units.

I'm pretty sure they will =]

Not to mention, they will probably have a feature that will allow users to build their own units. Expect to see some flying hamburgers.

interesting concept : kinda like how the Zelda series Link isn't given a voice so that it's more "personal" that the player can envision any voice they want.

Looking at starcraft Ghost, that was totally not how an Ultralisk looked like to me in Starcraft 1. Same thing with siege tank, any 3-d models seemed inferior to me compared to the sprite of Starcraft. I dont even want to get started with the science vessel.

As in actualy make to models like its 3DsMax or something.

At least I have heard old models will be in the ape editor I can just imagine it nowSC1 vs SC2 games

I'm really afraid that all of the custom games on battle net are going to be SC1 in SC2, I wouldn't want too much of that.

just a question here?: youre names Matriarch (girl), youve got a picture of a marine (guy) and youre gender says youre *nothing*. So what are you?

Wow, lock, remember my friend, and well gender doesnt really matter anyway. But back on topic, ya it would be cool to have the scraped units there, that way machinima and stuff would be a lot easier and it gives the player some more slack on the leash when it comes to designing maps.

It would be good to have a bunch of unused units in the editor, but I think it's a hard work for Blizzard to completely make these units.
I mean the soul hunters and all other units were a bit blocky, and it's too much work to soften the edges..
I don't think they will make it. Unfortunately..:(

remindes me off the cheats in age of empires, aaaa those were the days, first RTS I ever played you know and there still fresh in my head.
BOOM! = baby on a trycicle with shotgun
saint peter = priest that fires lightning
storm billy = a frekkin mech!
photon trooper = guy with machine gun laser
e=mc2 trooper = guy with nuclear rocket launcher
big daddy = black james bond car with a guy with a rocket launcher riding inside
big moma = same thing but a white car
there also was a cheat that that gave you control of all the animals on the map but you lot control of youre own guys....I loved doing an aligator/ellephant/tiger assault on my enemies base.

i wish we had a kind of forge, like in halo 3 where we could pretty much add ANYTHING and then well i dunno i guess this would just make a really good short film for the internet. Ah well your right, it might be hard for blizzard to implement all those unused units in the map editor

Lemmy
08-31-2007, 05:29 AM
Uhh everyone talks a lot about halo. Whats that game? Is it a FPS? Whats the storyline?

DontHate
08-31-2007, 05:34 AM
basicly halo is a fps were it's in the future and you fight the flood which are sorta like zerg, and the covenants, which is sort of like protoss. you're the humans which are obviously terran.

Hunter: it is not hard (for a major developer like Blizzard, at least) to create all of the assets: sounds, art, code, etc for a unit. They could crank these out by the dozen if they wanted to. The really tough thing is figuring out the balance between the units that they use in the game. Because these units would not be used in the competitive modes of gameplay, they do not have to invest the time to balance them. In fact, because the units will only be usable in UMS, and people usually modify units in UMS, they could just stick the unit in with some random amount of HP, have it do random damage, and let the mapmakers figure out how to make it work. They wouldn't even have to go all the way in producing it: they could just recycle another unit's sounds (like the generic hero units in SC) and leave it at that. Cake.

Halo is basically an overrated FPS that everyone thinks is god, but did nothing for the genre at all.

SC2 map editor is going to be so much powerful than the SC1 editor, so I'm sure this will be included
