There is a figure at the page of Marine, indicts there are two types of transport mechanisms named Dropship and Droppod. The former is what we already know, but anyone has idea on what's Droppods?
Are they some kind of shuttles which are ejected from a launcher?

The ghost has the ability to 'summon' marines with the help of drop pods. I think it works similar to nukes: the ghost pinpoints the position for the drop pod and after a few seconds, voilá, you have some marines as backup.

that must be a cool trip inside the droppod :D.

I was kinda expecting that is how they would be delivered. I wonder if the drop pod can be destroyed before they unload?

They can't be destroyed, they come down quickly, release the units and disappear in a few seconds.
See for yourself :)

Heres an upclose pic of the Drop Pod:

It's a great idea for the Terrans but I wonder how many units you can fit into them, I can only see 6 getting out.

so it really is 6, not 8.

I agree... also don't know what people are talking about, the shield looks exactly the same :?

wow. if you look closely at the pic you can see marines actually moving out from the pods with an animation just for the that. amazing!
*edit*
or maybe not as seen in the new demo =\
where can we download the HQ version of the new terran demo?

yes i hope so. cant wait. ^^
i hope they change the attack of the canons of the thor (flak) with missiles!

I wonder if you have to prebuild the drop pods like nukes.

It was in the video right? The marines were grouping around that building or something and it opened up for them.
zeratul11
08-04-2007, 10:01 PM
yah it opened but you dont see them actually coming out with the animations etc. they just automatically pop out like the zerglings from the nydus worns.
i maybe wrong. i hope. ^^

hey, i like the sheilds too.
the change is on the shield there used to be an insignia (i think the UED's falcon) and now its blank.
i hear they canceled the pods?

it would be cool if drops were build in a building qand you loaded them into the building, so that they marines would not die if the ghost dies
overmind
07-27-2008, 04:01 AM
the marines should die if the ghost dies after they are launhed but before its finished locking on (like a nuke) but it shouldn't take as long to lock on.
i actually liked the idea.

Sweet. Drop in a few marines after a nuke and use stims?

Sorry HaX, but Drop Pods are no more. They were cancelled a long time ago.
it will be cool if a drop pod had a price tag. so what about 10 marines per pod 500 crystal or whtvr lol. so instead of loading the pods with individual marines

Drop pods wouldve been a great idea, especially for transport, but it should be able to carry vehicles too besides infantries.. But its no problem since they said that the skill is in campaign mode / map editor.
and about the drop pods drop off, i think it should give a small damage like 100 each pod in a 3x3 area that it lands on, it would make sense being dropped by an enormous bludgeoning iron container would mash some one down to a crumble...

What I like from the drop-pod is that you make a lot of units appear inside a territory in one instant.
You should use the drop pods at the last moment. You attack an area with some units and vehicules, once you entered deeper in the territory you launch the drop pods to finish with the base
Another tactic is to use them once a ghost is on an island, and than to make go and come with dropship you use the drop pods.

I liked the Drop Pods. They filled a transport niche- long-distance transport, like the Nydus Worm and Warp-in. They cited the Ghost having too many abilities as one of the main reasons for removing it, so I hope they're considering bring it back in, but on another unit.
they should just give the emp ability to the banshee considering i heard that i doesnt have the area-effect attack/ability anymore.
i mean whats the point of showing the drop-pod if it wasn't even gonna make it to the final product. thats like saying.."we have a new game called Starcraft:Ghost," and than scraping the whole thing.
i love the pod. BRING BACK THE POD

Drop Pod would be nice for Banshees.
Cloak in, mark the spot, drop the infantry, and then start supporting them with your missile fire.

Anyone else think of a few questions when they heard pods were only gonna be used in single player?
Why must they stay in the campaign if they are out of skirmish?
Do they play a critical lore role?
Was their nothing else that could explain immediate arrival of marines in a in game cut scene?
Seriously? How about med vacs?
Is the inclusion of pods in single player just there to make use of the completed model/animations?
They are gonna be in UMS anyways, isn't that enough?
How far along is Blizz with the campaign in order to say a unit or ability is out of multi but absolutely must stay in for single player?

only in single player like the firebat or tuaren marine is.
it means that it is in the editor and thus people will use them in custom maps and such.

This might seem redundant but what about giving the drop pod ability to either the dropship or the marine as a tier 3 upgrade?
You send in a dropship with a squad of marines to secure an area behind your enemy base and then call for a drop pod for quick reinforcements.
imo they should give terran the ability to rank up as they would in the single player but also for multiplayer, and give drop pod back to the ghost when it hits rank 3. im thinkin that ther zerg has the queen, protoss the mothership, and terran the ghost.

What was it? Warhammer 40K?

I like the idea of giving it individually to infantry. Perhaps let the Ghost(or whatever) send off a beaker which could be used for Nukes or Drop Pods(the pods would be somewhat like a Nuclear Silo, where the Drop Pod is entered like a dropship)
So you could send in a Nuke, and then after the nuke hits, drop in 2 drop pods to clean up whatever is left.
Naturally, the pods would only be able to carry infantry. It may get a little sketchy to be able to bring in 4 tanks right after a Nuke blast...
howa bout do the same from battlecruisers, once you have a ghost you can choose which ability you want, nuke or drop pod....i choose nuke.

i thought it would be like building something, go from a button into either dropping a nuke or a droppod from a ghost

drop pod was a nice idea.
i think it will be in map editor. also the idea of it being in single player sounds kool too. it could be for the cut-scenes, when you come to your base and 3 drop pods race down and give you 24 marines for defence.
though, for balence purposes i dont know how blizzard who have balenced it. because technically you could drop pod oon the enmy and kil some of them.

How about taking idea from Quake 4 and 2 (check it out on youtube if you don't know what I'm talking about)? The single unit drop pods. Pods could rain down like an artillery barrage dealing damage to an area then marines come out.
Sounds OP, but nice visually, haha.
Is that too CnC? :P
^^thats a lot of pods haha. i have an idea: let banshees house probably 4 marines, in which it can attack from above.
^^that spam masubi looks so good right now

Or even better. Give ability to the banshees. Each one will house one. Then fires the drop pod. Giving the banshees some support.

that doesn't make it any different from a drop ship though.

Don't make it so the Banshee holds drop pods, just calls them down.

I say replace emp with drop-pods. The emp isn't very helpfull. It's good against other terran, and a few protoss. But it's pointless aganist the zerg. Drop-pods would help in balancing Warp-in, and the zerg worms. Drop-pods are more helpfull than emp. Anyways the protoss should have alrighty some type of emp jamming.
MyWifeforauir
10-04-2008, 11:59 AM
hahha wow i never thought i'll hear the word emp isn't useful here....
just because its pointless against a certain race does it necessary mean u have to scrap it? I mean take the infestor for example. Its infesting ability only works against terran so should we just rid of that skill? No.
Also actually emp is much more effective than a "few" protoss. Sometimes its used against them in a way which it can turn the tide of battle. E.g against a group of archons or high templars.
give the emp to banshee maybe and give back the pod to ghost?

What has EMP now?
lurkers_lurk
10-05-2008, 07:17 AM
the Ghost has EMP, which right now seems to go along with its Anti-caster role, with if you cant snipe them to death, them EMP them to disable their use for a while.
Crouse
10-07-2008, 05:59 AM
Doesn't the EMP take out the shields for the protoss as well? Or am I just making that up?

10-07-2008, 06:04 AM
yeah it does, it'll be really useful for targeting archons even without the shockwave.
