View Full Version : Favourite Protoss unit
ok this is another SC2 forum census
so which one? remember i'm referring to them as being "fully upgraded"

Zealots: When fully upgraded into speedlots they are a great defense against siege tanks, and just generally rock. Fun taking 3 or 4 of them in the early game and destroying a terran base ;)
Dragoon: A movable turret! Sweet!
Dark Templar: Invisible, and powerful. Plus fun to capture probes with the Dark Archon and starting making your own protoss siege tanks ;)

I vote good ol zealots. Cheap and powerful, both in terms of damage and defense. They can do heaps of damage quickly and are good against so many units. Even air units have a hard time killing them ;p

LOL thats an all time favourite......build an entire terran and zerg army by mind controlling SCV and probes!!!
Archon - i like their 39 damage and u can recharge their 350 shield, and they are anti-air as well!!
Dark templar - sneeky, invisible and 46 warp blade damage!!
Carrier - do i need to explain? ;)

Whenever a carrier was about to auto-complete at LAN parties I'd turn the speakers up really loud just to hear the collective groans ;) Man I love 'toss carriers.

Dark Templar. Freaking awesome. They're assassins man.
Reavers. Recall 12 of these babies fully loaded into an enemy base....Won't be a base there much longer.
High Templar. Seriously, where's the love for these guys? Psionic storm rips through units. Mad damage. Then Hallucinate an army of Archons? That's how to make your opponent panic. One match I fought, my opponent ended up nuking a crapload of my hallucinations.
^YES!!!^
The MIGHTY Psionic Storm!!! *RARRRRR - THUNDER*
bye bye zerglings, bye bye hydralisks, bye bye mutalisks, bye bye lurkers, bye bye guardians, farewell marines, firebats, medics, ghosts..............
But then its VERY irritating when my opponent cast the storm over my mineral gatherers!!!!

yea...I agree with the guy above me...but that mind control trick is nothing to mess with either...once, I had three fully operational "main" bases from three different races! I owned.

My is the carriers
Bumbaloe
05-22-2007, 11:51 PM
I like carriers for attacking, and goonies and arbiters for defending. My strategy is to make a wall of dragoons at the entrance to my base, then put the arbiter close enough it can cloak the dragoons but far away enough it can't be attacked. :D
markus
05-23-2007, 12:27 AM
That works if they dont't have air units that can fly up to the arbiter and kill it ;p But if you have several arbiters.. and lots of dragoons! :o
^ sometimes i make 2 arbiters and send one with my fleet of carriers to attack..
and my keep my other one in my base to make a recall if nesscary

I voted DT, because they're just that awesome. There is not much to say about them beyond that, though.
Dark Archons can be a lot scarier than many people realize. They can paralyze a large group of biological units with maelstrom and they can absolutely murder enemy spellcasters with Feedback. You don't even have to sacrifice your shields (I'm looking t you, Mind Control) use them, either.
^ OMG YES ^ when i 1st played brood war my entire battlecruiser fleet just disppeared when i attacked a protoss base.................then i learnt about feedback................oh........................ ...............................:P

recall dragoons in their base and they will kill everything

Revear and scarabs just because it's a snail and it kills people of course carrier is the best. but just the essence of the thing.
has anyone ever have a fleet of carriers attacking an enemy.....then recall the fleet of carriers back into the base?
most of the interceptors don't get recalled....instead they fly ALL THE WAY across the map back into your base....the image is just crazy!!

My favourite? They all are! I haven't got to Protoss yet this time round, so I can't remember exactly what they are like. Dark templars are great, you can't see them and only they can kill cerebrates. Archons look so cool and do splash damage. Carriers... do I need to explain? I would have also put dark archons for the power to have 600 units, but you can only choose 3. If I was a unit in StarCraft I would be a Zealot though, for they are the blades of Aiur!

Oh yea I'm still wondering about Feedback... what the hell is it? Hmm I should read up above here... will do after posting... EDIT: ahh... so what exactly does it do, does it make the spells they cast hurt the casters themselves? Never understood it... never did... and Maelstrom, same thing - it paralyzes non-mechanic units huh? Ahaahhh....
I voted Dragoon, Archon and Carrier... I just like the way Dragoons and Archons look and attack, and I love the Archon's high shield points, and I love the Carrier for obvious reasons...
Besides, talk about Zealots and Acolytes, but Dragoons want to keep going even AFTER giving their life a first time! Beat that!
I love the Probe most though! That wasn't in there! It's so cute with it's "meow"-like sounds!

Feedback does damage depending on amount of energy the enemy has!
I think... that or I am getting it mixed up with mana burn from warcraft 3. I play dota too much :P
Whatsifsowhatsit
05-27-2007, 02:00 AM
Oooh yaah... but with Mana Burn there's a maximum, is that with Feedback too? Else it WOULD be great against... Vessels... BCs... err anyone? Well, lotsa things really!
What Feedback does is that it drains all of the enemy's energy, and whatever amount of energy drained will be equal the amount of damage to the enemy's HP.
So a Battlecruiser has 250 energy. A feedback means it's energy will be zero, and the HP will go from 500 to 250.
It can only be used on spell casters, but it can be DEADLY when properly used.
and yeah maelstorm....all organic units will be stunned (aka locked down) for a period of time. Its very useful against the Zerg.
Hope that answer your question :)
Whatsifsowhatsit
06-02-2007, 01:17 PM
Yeah it does... I've seen Maelstorm lately, and I remember having seen it before but not knowing what it was at the time... xD I guess I never learned what it did cause whenever I do play Protoss, and get the Dark Archon, I might try these on some units, but probably never Maelstorm on organic ones or Feedback on psy ones...

Dark Archon and the Dark Templar... need I say more?

06-03-2007, 03:02 AM
Don't ya hate when your group of archon's get's EMP'd by those lame as science vessels? Grrr Nothing worse. Except locked down reavers. Or carriers. Terrans are so annoying. But yeah, fave toss units gotta be (in this order) Carrier, Dark Templar, Zealot. Although I do love the way the cryogenic goo spills out of dead goons, and that noise they make as they die...close 4th.

Carriers, the carnage you can cause with those things is INSANE.
though i love dark archons, lets me steal a drone so i can make my favorite race >:D AND have protoss support.
fun to capture probes with the Dark Archon and starting making your own protoss siege tanks ;)
woaa this time it could be confusing.. but i'm getting used to ur style..
I voted for what I mainly use when I play melee.. (urghh when I used to play starcraft.. I mean)
So i voted for:
Dragoon: woaa a moving photon cannon with upgradable damage, range, armor!
Reaver: Shuttle + Reaver
Corsair: Overlord killer and against the protoss, when teamed with an observer.. it's great to kill all these observers spying all around the map..
my other choices would be DT and obs.. I my stuff cloaked 100% of the time.

Dragoon.
Cosairs are horrible at killing overlords and most air units in general, the scouts are much better.

I personally dont like BW. It seems that i dislike all expansion packs. >< but my favorite units are Arbitors, Reavers and Templars those units pretty much rape all ><

arbitOr becuase recall, statsis, cloaking, and if you know how you can glitch the zerg race like mad ^.^
Singuris
06-16-2007, 05:00 AM
instead of carriers i get scouts they are simply better
arbitors only have one good thing recall the cloaking thing makes it a target ><
Scouts are excellent if the enemy has lots of air units, or if they don't have anything that can attack air. Otherwise their 8+3 ground attack is a bit short, even weaker than mutalisks.
Oh yeah the arbitor is GREAT for recalling, I played today and I had 6 arbitors :P I put 3 in my base and 3 to send out with my fleet. When my carriers get quite damaged I recall them back to my base for a quite shield recharge, then quickly recall them back into the battlefield. It always works!!

Dark Templars, only because they sound really bad-a$$ and cool

Dark Templar. Why? Because the DT rush is deadly to a non-zerg player without detectors.

the protoss carrier. cause in both game and real life starcraft, you will feel safe when there are carriers around. issshnnuuk.
On the other hand, it feels extremely unsafe to send out the carriers if there's a bunch of ghosts waiting. The carrier is also quite hopeless at taking out swarms of scourges, I always have back them up with corsairs.
But once I remembered I did not send out my carriers because my enemy has heaps of ghosts, then it turned out that he never researched lockdown..............
dark templars. i usually launch a sneak attack when enemy units is ready to strike. but i really prefer dragoon. very much versatile.

Depending of the situation you can love or hate your own units¡¡¡
Example,,, I voted Dark Templars ´cause of their sneak-high power attacks,,, and sometimes, if you get to rush with´em it´s so hard to take them down,,, at least at the early game. You can take advantage of protoss, terran and even zerg with them. ( at first, overlords are slow so you can take down some expansion before you get detected). But later in the game you can still use´them as combat units or somekind of radar. That´s why I voted them... When some air unit attacks your DT´s, you get pissed,, but you know, they can´t be perfect.

Reavers, High Templar, and Dragoons are my top favorites, with reavers and high templar competing for the #1 spot.

i dont know why but corsairs are really cool very effective against carriers and overlords but i dont know why but they are cool

Corsair because it SO beats out the Scout, its one hell of a fast unit, and it kicks ass against the zerg!
DT because its invisible, it looks badass (old one), and it IS a badass
Zealot because they're the best basic unit, they are badass (not quite to DT, but close), and because we all secretly hope that we have the ability to form psionic energy into blades on our arms :P
TerranTemplar
07-29-2007, 10:14 PM
Zealots because I love the idea of advanced warriors that have freaking blades attached to thier forearms. Bonus points for being brought for by mental prowess. Plus thier name intrigues me.
Dark Templars for the same reasons.....only invisible!
And lastly, the carrier. Its death from above. What is there not to love?

Dark Templars, because the enemy can send a whole army of hydras without ann overlord and soon they get owned by 12 dark templars.
Carriers for obvious reasons.
High Templars, because they own against zerg together with dark archons.
Example: You see a whole group of guardians, hydralisks and devourers coming towards your base. A few dark archons maelstrom the group, then high templar psionic storm. All units are dead.
Of course they can also hallucinate Archons and mass the opponent's base with both real and hallucinated ones.

Dark templar and the archon
Scarecrow
08-06-2007, 12:03 PM
I have exactly the same favourites with TerranTemplar. Zealots for their "All for the Empire!" attitude, DTs for stealthy assasination and capital ships just intimidate.
Corsair are so underestimated...
I understand that against terran they are pretty much useless.. but against zerg, they are gold..
against any zerg player I manage to rush corsair (while making zealots/goons/ht) just to disable their overlords.. all you need is stargate + 1 corsair and you start scouting the map like crazy killing all those overlords.. when the 2nd corsair is ready it gets much easier to hunt them.. i'm usualy ok with 4 corsairs.. if you are against a noob zerg, those 4 corsairs will win the game, against a good player, it will still help you.
The only thing you gotta watch out is stay away from hydra/spore.. if he starts to make muta, make more corsair and you can easily deal with the muta with ur corsair/goon/ht
Cerebrate
08-06-2007, 09:07 PM
As a fanatic Zerg player I just *HATE* Corsairs... they can be so damn pain in ass.. they harass my overlords so damn easily and mutas are never safe from them...
You need to use overlords as detectors and protoss players use often Corsairs and DT's as synergy and that combo can quickly get battlefield supremesy if used right.
What is my favorite protoss unit as protoss player?
hmm... Archon.

I gotta go with carriers capital ships are generally just awsome on thier own. Als there is nothing more satisfying then watching 12 carriers unleash a hell swarm of interceptors that make zerglings feel outnumbered.

zeolots, dt and then carriers....
Zealots are so freaking fast when fully upgraded they are just as destructive as lings lvl up
dark templars are like the ninjas of SC and ninjas are always cool
carriers just look so cool and that interceptors absorb lots of damage if people aren't focus firing.
Carrier + Interceptors = the best

The carrier is well a carrier it rocks
Corsair's disruption web is the best I really hope something gets it inSC2
Dragoon: What's not to like about a roving photon cannon back it up by an observer and it rocks
dt's because they are invisible forever and they do 40 dmg and 49 upgraded its to op'd

BirdOfPrey we have it exactly alike.
Carrier = No Brainer.
Coursair = Disruption Web. Splash Damage air attack and very fast move speed good for scouting.
Dragoon = Land and Air attack, all around versatile unit

Carriers: Why? Because they are ships made purely of win.
Arbiters: Why? Because recalling my entire army into your undefended main base is awesome. That and I get to imagine you crying when everything you have is destroyed :)
