After ten years on the circuit, it appears StarCraft: Brood War will not be making another appearance at the World Cyber Games. According to the 2010 schedule while other titles like WarCraft 3, Counter-Strike, and Guitar Hero will be competitive events, StarCraft: Brood War will not be making an appearance.

This is certainly a strange occurrence, clearly related to the impending development and release of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty in 2010. No official statement has been made as to the motive behind the removal of StarCraft: Brood War from the lineup. Thanks to StarCraft.org for the scoop!

This is all pretty self explanitory as the article says. And I agree. It's time to retire the old game and next year in 2011 have SC2 there ready for some good action. Not really a strange occurance at all. It seems people they ant people talking/playing SC2 and not the old SC1 anymore.

On anothert topic games like conuter-strike and WC3 are getting really long in the tooth by now. I wonder how those old games are still there. I thought there would be some newer and better games to play there instead.

warcraft 3 remains a popular game. It still has an active community and is highly ranked on xfire (rank 10). More-so than starcraft (rank 95).

So I guess this answers the question about whether the majority of SC pro-gamers will be moving on to SC2 or stay at SC1.

Replace "Warcraft 3" with "DOTA".

that's not fair... not everyone on WC3 is playing DOTA. there's tower defense, too.
