StarCraft2Forum.org 128 Man "Ultimate" PC Tournament
By Joneagle_X - Published: July 26, 2010

Launch Party/Tournament

UPDATE: Some of last night's registrations were lost due to the server being overly busy. If you submitted a tournament registration last night, please do so ONE more time at tournament.starcraft2forum.org! Thank you for your patience!

In celebration of tonight's midnight release of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty StarCraft2Forum.org is holding a launch party starting right here at 12:00 AM July 27th EDT. All you have to do is show up and participate in our Chatroom (note: you must be a registered member to join the chat). We'll be handing out lots of gear as our party is sponsored by Steelseries.

Steelseries

Don't worry if you don't have your copy of the game just yet you can still hang out and win lots of prizes! We'll be going all night for another great reason, outlined below.

Our launch party will also serve as a registration party for our "Ultimate" StarCraft 2 PC tournament which starts on Wednesday. Signups begin EXACTLY at 3:30 AM EDT at Tournament.StarCraft2Forum.org. Be sure to check there and read up on all the rules and other information you'll need to participate. Signups are first-come, first-serve and we'll take the first 128 players to sign up.

The best part is the Grand Prize which is a fully-built custom PC specifically designed to run StarCraft 2 to its max. Various components are being provided by the tournament's sponsors: Razer, Nvidia, Antec, Patriot, and Shokz Guide. The build includes an i5 processor, Nvidia GTX460, an Antec EF-85 case, and 8GB of DDR3 RAM. It also comes fully stocked with peripherals provided by Razer and Antec. It's an all-around amazing build! Be sure to register to test your skills!

We've also got some awesome Razer Imperators up for grab! The tournament starts Wednesday at 8:30 EDT and runs through the finals on Saturday starting at 8:30 EDT. Be sure to look out for StarCraft.org's Amateur Hour crew who will be casting the tourny. Good luck out there!

StarCraft2Forum.org Reviews Shokz StarCraft 2 Guide
By Joneagle_X - Published: July 26, 2010

Shokz Review

In the somewhat long and varied history of StarCraft2Forum.org, we’ve tried our best to bring you knowledge of StarCraft 2. Within our limited scope, we’ve provided tips on gameplay, opinions on balance, and as the beta has progressed, we’ve started to give you winning strategies and guides (mostly for Terran since that’s what I play).

It’s become pretty clear that there’s no way that I can be an expert on all three races. I like to think that I’m a very knowledgeable and talented Terran player, but in order to keep my level of play high with one race, I have to skip the other two for the time being.

That has left a gap in the knowledge I can provide to our users. That’s why I’ve always taken the suggestions of various community members to hear when they’ve asked me about guides. I’ve heard a lot of guides downplayed because they were useless, and I’ve even taken a look at a couple (Joana’s Guide and Star2Pros) and completely disregarded them because they were ridiculously expensive for what they provided.

Void Ray Rush

So last week when Shokz StarCraft 2 Guide approached me about a review I was a little apprehensive. But hey, I’m willing to give anything a shot once. After reading the guide and talking with its owner, I’ve been convinced that it is a useful tool in any StarCraft player’s arsenal. While I don’t necessarily recommend the use of guides in general for more advanced players (because you become reliant and more of a copy-cat player) I would definitely suggest a guide for new players who are just starting out with StarCraft 2 or are new to the RTS genre in general.

The Shokz guide covers the basics, and does it well. There is a large amount of material that is presented in an easy to understand format that is improving as we speak. I was particularly impressed with the Unit Guides in which Shokz outlines the strengths and weaknesses of each unit in the context of other units it will encounter on the battlefield. This is often the area which is the easiest to learn but some players are slow to pick up to the point where they can detect the correct counter in situations where it will win them the game. His collection of build orders and unit-specific tricks are also very helpful (I even learned something—who knew scanning instead of getting MULEs could hurt you so bad? I’m also going to start using his Barracks trick for scouting).

SC2 Guide

So what’s my advice here? If you’re new to the Starcraft universe (that includes WarCraft 3 players) I would suggest taking a look at his guide. Whether it’s worth the $27 lifetime subscription is ultimately up to you, but it couldn’t make you worse, right? Good luck out there!

Single Player Challenge Missions; Ultralisk Might Have Frenzy
By Joneagle_X - Published: July 24, 2010

Ultralisk Frenzy

As everyone (including StarCraft2Forum.org) gears up for next week's launch, some great feature updates can get lost in the bustle. So here's some updates on some of the tasty tidbits that have come in this week in anticipation of the looming launch.

First up we have the culmination of the "Dominion" propaganda site which resulted in the release of a fantastic, hair-raising trailer for the upcoming release entitled Ghosts of the Past. It's phenomenal. Make sure you check it out.

Also, the Dominion Propaganda contest is open to community voting on submissions to determine the winners. Don't miss out on this, there is desktop wallpaper material for years (check our images to grab some of our favorites since it's not easily downloadable from Blizzard's site).

Lastly, there are two articles on the new StarCraft Community site of some note. First is Dustin Browder's closing interview regarding the beta. He discusses an interesting change that seems to suggest the Ultralisk will have an ability called "Frenzy" which was eliminated in one of the later beta patches. Now it's an ability instead of being cast by the Infestor. Second is a preview of some of the single player missions which apparently include trial-and-error micro scenarios in which a player must utilize his units properly to pass the scenario. Good stuff.

Here's that trailer we were telling you about, as well as some of our favorites from the propaganda contest:

Red Marine Ghost Chick
Marines Kill FireBat

Click on each to enlarge and download since Blizzard is making it difficult! Enjoy!

UPDATE: This deal sold out in a couple hours. Sorry!

On a lighter note, someone also submitted a hilarious parody video to us. We're a little concerned about it's depiction of Koreans, but it's hilarious! Check it out!
