Ok some people might not know this. This was taken directly from the 1.15.2 Broodwar patch notes. This will allow you to play StarCraft without the disc. - Windows Users: - Make sure you have "Hide extensions for known types" unchecked under Explorer Folder Options. - If you own only StarCraft, copy "INSTALL.EXE" from the StarCraft CD to your StarCraft folder and rename it to "StarCraft.mpq". - If you own StarCraft: Brood War, copy "INSTALL.EXE" from the StarCraft: Brood War CD to your StarCraft folder and rename it to "BroodWar.mpq". Here is an example... 1. 2. - Mac users: - If you own only StarCraft, copy "StarCraft Archive" from the StarCraft CD to your StarCraft folder. - If you own StarCraft: Brood War, copy "Brood War Archive" from the StarCraft: Brood War CD to your StarCraft folder. I hope that helps some people.
Or you can go onto the Blizzard store, put your CDkEY into there, and download the game. That will then install the program with Starcraft and BroodWar MPQs installed for you!
yeah but what if you lost the original cd and key...i want to play the campaigns... oh, and change your taskbar colour...horrible!
If you "lost" the original cd and key, just go buy another one... StarCraft isn't very expensive you know...
If you only want to play the campaigns you can also download a new copy of the game and "find" a CD key...
I know, I know, this is a really late reply to this topic, but thanks for the explantion man. I bought the game and installed the patch ages ago right after it was released, but it still keeps asking me for the cd. My arrogance always prevents me from reading thos files, ("ReadMe? **** off, I don't need you, I'm super 1337!") which resulted in a lot of pounding on my keyboard because the patch wasn't doing wat it was supposed to do. Now it turns out that I am the one who was lacking to do some important stuff. Thanks again. You have cured my arrogance. I will spend the next few days reading all of the ReadMe files on my pc. Not.
I'm glad you found the importance of read me's... Also I'm glad to have helped you with your dilemma..
Yeah? Thanks for letting me know. But it should work anyway though, because its what blizzard says to do... hehe!
Wait, so I just went to the blizzard store and downloaded the Anthology...Is that ONLY Multiplayer and no campaigns? Wow, what a waste of $15, I wanted to replay the campaigns to catch up on the story. Not only this, but I can't get the Anthology to load... I installed it on my 13" Intel-based MacBook, etc. Now, when I go to start SC, it gives me a 'Startup Option' screen where I can toggle 2 or 3 display settings. The thing is, when I click 'OK,' nothing happens - the game doesn't load... Any advice?
