Not sure if your rig can run StarCraft II? Never fear, we're here to help! First off, we'll go over the minimum required specs. PC Requirements PC Minimum System Requirements: Windows® XP/Windows Vista®/Windows® 7 (Updated with the latest Service Packs) with DirectX® 9.0c 2.6 GHz Pentium® IV or equivalent AMD Athlon® processor 128 MB PCIe NVIDIA® GeForce® 6600 GT or ATI Radeon® 9800 PRO video card or better 12 GB available HD space 1 GB RAM (1.5 GB required for Windows Vista®/Windows® 7 users) DVD-ROM drive Broadband Internet connection 1024X720 minimum display resolution PC Recommended System Requirements: Windows Vista®/Windows® 7 Dual Core 2.4Ghz Processor 2 GB RAM 512 MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800 GTX or ATI Radeon® HD 3870 or better Mac Requirements Mac Minimum System Requirements: Mac® OS X 10.5.8, 10.6.2 or newer Intel® Processor NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT or ATI Radeon® X1600 or better 12 GB available HD space 2 GB Ram DVD-ROM drive Broadband Internet connection 1024X720 minimum display resolution Mac Recommended System Requirements: Intel® Core 2 Duo processor 4 GB system RAM NVIDIA® GeForce® 9600M GT or ATI Radeon® HD 4670 or better Do you meet the specs? Great! You're good to go. Don't meet the specs? Never fear, you've got a few options. If your rig is a desktop, usually it's just a simple as replacing a component or two. Or, conversely, if you feel your system is older than the dinosaurs and decide it's time to build a new one, we got you covered. Joneagle_X has written an awesome guide to building a PC that'll run StarCraft II quite nicely indeed. Check it out here. If you've got a laptop that doesn't meet the specs, well... Unfortunately, pretty much the only option available to most laptop users is adding more RAM, or purchasing a new computer altogether. Don't know your specs? Don't worry, not a problem. There's a few ways to check it, but I personally use a nifty little utility called 'dxdiag.' *NOTE: Windows only. Mac users, skip this bit, your solution is past this* 1. Open your Start Menu and navigate to Run. 2. Type in dxdiag and hit enter. 3. It may ask to see if your drivers are signed. You can either hit yes or no, for our purposes it doesn't matter. 4. You'll come up with a few tabs. The ones we want are System and Display. System will give us Processor speed, RAM amount, and DirectX version. Display will give us operating resolution and which video card you have. If you know how to read this, awesome. Compare it with the above minimum specs, and go from there. If not, move to step 5. 5. Click "Save All Information" and name it something obvious, like "Fenix's Awesome Rig". Save it somewhere you can find it again, cause we're gonna be opening it in a second. 6. Open the text file you just saved. See, I told you. 7. Now, there's a few sections we'll want, the rest is just fluff for our purposes. We'll want System Information, the first bit of Display Devices (we don't need the random mumbo-jumbo after the driver info), and if you want, hard disk info. All in all, it'll look like this: Spoiler ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 7/20/2010, 22:11:37 Machine name: JOSHUA-PC Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.100226-1909) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Dell Inc. Mac users, don't worry, I didn't forget about you. Yours is a bit more simple. Go ahead and post the same things as the Windows users above. That's it! Now, that wasn't so bad was it? If you need any more help, don't hesitate to ask, but be sure to follow this guide.
You can also check your specs (if you're very uncommon with Hardware and use your PC for playing games only) via the System Requirements Lab. Simply type "Starcraft II" in the top box or search for "Starcraft II" in the lower drop-down-box. Right now, only the Beta-Specs are included but surely they'll update it to SC2 retail as soon as it hits the stores!
